    rusty racing!

woohoo, i had my first real race with my ruslter tonite. between rain and other things i havent really got to race the first few weeks. i actually did ok! i normally have the batteries in the front, and i tried putting the in the back for the first heat...thats a bad plan. i had the worst push ever, started 5th and finished 4th because i was the last one running....put them back to the front for the second, and it helped sooo much..ended up third in that one with average laptimes almost exactly half of the first heat. half!! then in the main we started 10 cars...with 1 minute to go i was 3rd, but the leader nailed me while he was lapping me and flipped me...and a napping marshall didnt flip me over for quite a while...1 lap later i was out of fuel, ended up 5th. had i not run out of fuel, i'd say i'd have been third, as i was 2 laps ahead of 4th. but oh well!

now my question.....why am i running out of fuel when i flip? the tank seems to not leak if i flip it at idle, but when i rev it it spits serious gas out the pipe. i ran out twice, once in the main and once in heat 1 (but got it back out to finish the first heat). my first though was too short of a pressure tube(thus excessive tank pressure?), so i put a longer coiled one on it....and i did flip once in the second heat and didnt run out...but i was righted within 5 seconds. when i sit longer i have to rev it to keep it running....and then i run the tank dry. any ideas?

Reving the engine uses more fuel, so you need to find a way so you don;t have to rev the engine.. Try lengthening the line from the tank to the carb. There will be more fuel in the line for your engine to use until the napping marshal flips you back, thus you don;t need to rev the engine as much? Maybe, I dunno...

thats a good idea.....and the best way is to not flip over, but sometimes thats not an option.

i dont have to rev it hard, but just some....it just doesnt idle upside down for very long, i'm assuming due to lack of tank pressure to get fuel up to the line

Mine used to run forever upside down. It hasn;t in some time though.. I do know that when it's upside down, the fuel can't get into the line cause the inlet is at the bottom of the tank, which becomes the top(where there is no fuel) when it's upside down, so the engine should only run as long as the fuel in the line will allow... The longer the line, the more fuel in it.. Though there's probably a point where the pressure will not push the fuel if the line is too long. You could give it a shot and see.. Let us know

Thats cool i just went to the track for the first time a couple of weeks ago and it was fun but damage to the track was what took me out of the running. Plus it was only a practice night so i didnt get to race anybody except revolution (chuck) for a couple of laps then i stripped my spur and he broke the front c hub and bearing carrier so we were both done for the night.

    Peace,
    Tim
Why is it that when you're driving and looking for an
address, you turn down the volume on the radio?

Why is a boxing ring square?

make the fuel feed line a bit longer so that u remain running even though it is running lean it will enable you to run a little longer, this will help at least until a marshall can flip u over

    luke71,

    Congrats! Great job.

Do the things suggested here already and you should be fine.

race night #2, at little plum raceway this time....a somewhat longer track. heat one had me upside down and out of fuel again, got back out for 7th (out of 9). heat 2 had the car taking flight, in one of the highest crashes i've ever seen on an oval track....easy 5 feet off the ground after snagging a berm...but no damage. 2 laps later a small, wussy flip snaps my axle and ends the night. but i think i found out why my car refuses to go straight and pushes bad on throttle....the axle looked like it had been spinning some inside the hub, so i may have only been getting full power down on the left rear.

If you haven't already, put a fuel filter in the feed line. This will hold more fuel and clean it.
Everyday I beat my own previous record for number of consecutive days I've stayed alive.
