Home Made Starter Box
I got fed up with my one way bearing always slipping. Makes me wonder why they don't redesign it. the pull cord on my lawnmower never ever ever slips. must be a better design..hmm....
Roy, you could charge 50 bucks and make a fortune for a pull start mechanism that doesn't slip.
Anyway, being broke as I am, I looked for a cheap bump starter on E-bay and got lucky.
I suppose I could use it as is, but another thread got me thinking maybe I could build my own box with the bump starter and some 1/16" sheet metal. I have done some preliminary drawings for the sheet metal, but I can't actually finalize dimensions until I get the bump starter in so I can make it fit properly.
The design is pretty similar to most aftermarket boxes. Once I started putting it to paper, I was amazed at how simple the construction actually is.
In my design, for the sake of making it easy on the metal guy who will be doing me the favor of cutting and bending the metal, I have a separate piece for each end, both sides, the bottom, and the top. Each piece has several tabs that will be folded over to overlap an adjacent piece, then be drilled and machine screwed together.
If anyone is interested, I'll post updates on how it goes.
Of course, I wonder if I'm wasting my time, but I'm tired of just forking out bucks all the time. i thought it was time to get resourceful.
Anyone think I'm nuts?
