I reformatt my drives about every 6 months. I have 2 drives in each PC so it is a snap. I find you end up with a lot of you can only fix by a reformatt. Plus Windows is so much happier new.
spoilers are for distracting the compition when it flies off on that wretched triple over near turn 5

    Good Luck!

Re-formatting and re-loading sux. I keep a Norton "ghost image" of my PC on a CD. This way if something really goes wrong, I can just boot off of the CDROM and have it back to new in 5 minutes.

If you start having problems with Windows it is about the only real cure. Sometimes you can reload Windows on top of the existing load but it tends to not work for long. Formatting and reloading gives you a fresh, clean start. I have found that Win 95,98, ME all are a little unstable. Myself I reformat and reload 2-3 times a year.

No, not just you. Win 95, 98, and ME can act funny and formatting is the only real answer. I'm running XP now and have been running it for 5 months with no problems. I have also used Win 2000 without any real problems. XP and 2000 being based from the NT core are much more stable.

It is basically wiping your hard drive clear of ANY information on it. After you re-format the drive the PC won't even boot, until you install an operating system like Windoze or Linux. Then you have to install all your applications. Simply put, it's like giving your computer an enema.

I have never had to re-format. I don't understand how it can get unstable . I have Windows XP and I love it.

it can get unstale for the following reasons.

    missing or incomplete files..
    bad windows regstiery
    viruses
when hd gets full.it can screw up the swap file,
there are many of reason why windows can run unstable.but i had ex since oct 2001 and it's greatno problems at all.....it boots up fast and runs every program.....but its a good idea to format and reinstall every thing it keeps your pc running good.

I reformat every 3 months or so. People that dont reformat would be amazed how much faster there OS would run if the reformatted every once and a while. BTW i use windows 2000/XP or linux.

Yep, you GOTTA reformat every so often. AT LEAST once a year bare minimum IF you use your computer a lot. If you just use it for internet every now and then, don't worry about it. But, if you do anything serious, reload the OS often. I go about every 4 months or so.

my Comp one time had to be reformat 3 times in a month but i am used to it. I can get my network and all my programs back up about 30mins after its done. it makes your comp act so much faster with little bugs. )

    ok to format win 98

insert the boot disket in the floppy.
    follow insturtions on the screen.

start pc with cd rom susport.
after it runs thru get c prompt

    c:\ format c:
    then y for yes.

but firsy its a good idea to run fdisc to reset partiton.
    then format

if you read all the instuctions on the screen you cant go wrong.

I have both 2000 and XP. I must say by far that they are the most stable Windows packages on the market today. 98 and ME is terrible...
    Been there, wrecked that.

"windoze" is Miscrosoft Windows (95/98/Me/NT/2K/XP). Linux is a "UNIX®" like operating system (yes, it has a GUI (windows) interface). Different variations of Linux are available for download FOR FREE. Many applications, such as word processing, web browser, and multimedia apps are available for FREE. Installing Linux on your PC is a little harder than MS Windows, but it is a more stable operating system. I could go on forever, but I won't. So for more info, click on this link to the Mandrake-Linux home page. <-- just one of many versions of Linux.

Hey arceegy, Do you run linux if so what distrubution?

I run Corel Linux 2.0 with apache and samba servers installed.
I am thinking of switching to SuSe because everyone I talk to says it's good and Linus himself run it, so it's got to be good.
    long long time
