Cool Is a 14 turn motor OK in standard 4-TEC?

Can I use a Reedy PulseR 14T double with the standard 4-TEC drive belt and transmission, or will the gears/belt be damaged?

Other problems with using a 14 turn motor? (with ESC)

Is there less chance to strip gears if I gear it for higher top speed and less acceleration?

How often do you have to change the drive belts (worn out)?

I was running the stock (27tooth?) PINION that comes with the kit. I *think* I was running a 82 tooth SPUR GEAR, but I'm not sure. IIRC, it had good accelearation and a fairly good top end - but the gear probably wasn't perfect.

Wasn't 'til later that I got interested in racing. When you're running a 15T motor and everybody else is running a 9T - you tend to get your butt kicked.

*EDIT: Got spur and pinion mixed up.

I ran a 14-turn ONYX for over a year without any driveline damage. Replaced the belts "just because" a few months ago when a rock jammed in the front belt and took a chunk out of one of the teeth - the car still ran fine.

As long as you keep proper clearance between the spur and pinion gears, stripping gears shouldn't be a problem. Most of my gear problems come from sand getting stuck in the teeth.

You shouldn't have any problems using a 14-turn motor.

What size pinion/spur did you use with the Onyx? I guess the 14 turn works at higher rpms than the standard Stinger motor, is a smaller pinion necessary?

9T. Hmm... Where I live most people run stock motors, and 14T is considered fast...

I plan to use the 14T for having fun, and then stick to ye olde stock motor for racing. My driving skills aren't up to handling a fast car well, and it usually is more fun when all drivers have equally fast cars. But I guess we could all buy mod motors!

Scat(\/)an, are you sure that your running an 82 tooth PINION? I think that you confused the spur and the pinion. The pintion gear mounts to the motor.

13 turn motor and 31 tooth pinion?

That's a heavy load... Do you race on a very large open track? Is there any acceleration left in that gearing, or is it all about top speed? ;o)

I haven't got my 4-tec yet, but I'm thinking of using a 25T pinion on a 14 turn motor to get good acceleration. Any thoughts?
