    Post Oil to gas ratios..........

I am wondering what ratios people run. The manual says 25:1, but I heard it boggs down alot. I was told to run 40:1 (which I will) but I was wondering if it might be a good idea to run the first tank or two 25:1 to break-in the engine.

Anywho, what are you guys running, and find to be the best?

25 to one is probably a good idea for break in, then gradually increase it like a quart thru it at a time, like 25 to 1 first quart, then 30,35,40,. or im sure it would be ok to just run about 3 full tanks at 25 to one then go to 40 to 1. with the gas your running keep an eye on the temp of it, that high of an octane has got to run hot.so if you do the first method,25,30,35,40 you can see the running temp change and be able to get it where you want it easier from there, say if 36 to 1 is perfect effiency for it, then you could find that quicker then by just jumping from 25 to 40. gl

I also was told 32:1 that has been fine. But don't use the cheap 1$ a bottle stuff. Go get the 'Maxium 927' oil at a dirt bike shop. It has Castrol in it and seems to work really well. Stuff is 22$/qt here in Florida, but we use it for the yz's (bikes)anyway. Question here though, I put the pipe on it but had to cut it down or it interfers with the front wheel movement, no biggie but I think I'll have to change the needle settings a bit, has anyone eles had too. thanks.

MOTUL is also some of the Newest and Best 2-cycle oil out. I just picked up a Qt of it for $11. It actually runs cooler and it only mixes at 40-50:1. It really seems that i even gained alittle proformance now that i have a Velocity stack w/K&N and im running 110 Octane Sunoco now. Even idles cleaner with this MOTUL, i'm really impressed. I recomend the Velocity Stack, K&N, and 110 Qctane if you guys can get it at your local Offroad shop.-Matt

I mix 25-1(or 24-1)as per instructions in the manual and on the side of the engine.I use Klotz Synthetic with castol.I have been thru a lot of 2 cycle engines in my time(by doing yardwork for a living)and believe strongly in following the mix instructions. My rule of thumb is if it doesn't smoke,it's not getting enough oil...

As far as oil, I am gonna start with the Yamalube.Seems to be a fav. around here with people who know their stuff.

These engines arnt suposed to smoke though (except when its cold). A good rule of thumb is if your smokin, your to rich, if it stalls under aceleration, your to lean. Otherwise, you shouldnt see anything.

i usually like to run just a tad rich so i only see a little smoke when its at idle, just because after a long hard run then it sits and idles the heat really builds up, ill probably end up around a 38 to 1 ratio just because i know the klotz oil does really well, after running 35 to 1 for some time i tore down the engine and it had a fine coating of clear oil on everything, perfect, so the manufacter's say 25 to 1 just for people who use wal-mart brand oil.
the only smoke i want to see is from my tires!!

Well,I am sure they know not everyone buys walmart oil...25-1 is 25-1 no matter if the oil is Wal-Mart,Klotz,or anything else.I am sure they prefer you to buy the best but none the less it is suggested to run at 25-1.Remember the oil smoke that comes out the exhaust is the same oil that just lubricated your bearings and crankcase seals on the upstroke of your engine(when it is drawn into the crankcase)...I myself would like to see that there was enough of oil in my gas.I had a weedeater once(Homelite 25CC)that annoyed me because it smoked. So I leaned it to where there was just a little smoke. After a week running it this way I burnt the engine up.All for the sake of a little less smoke.I did the same thing to a lawnboy mower. My MB runs like a scalded dog at 25-1 and thats where I will keep it.Of course it smokes more since I opened the Low mixture screw up 1/8 of a turn, but I can live with the smoke for my peace of mind...I have so much power now that just a small throttle kick sends the Buggy into a slide even at high speed.I am not saying you guys are wrong or that you will destroy your engines.I hope you don't just for the sake of a little speed.I am just saying I go by the book.

I think it ends up being one of those things where if you as 10 different people, you get 10 different awnsers. As long as everyone is happy with their settup, all is well.

You are right.I was only sharing my personal experiences with all of you.If some here have leaned the oil/gas mix or leaned the carb with no bad effects I am happy for them.I am in no way saying the recommended mixes or settings are for everyone.

    Thumbs up

ALL 2-cycle Oils have their Own Mixrate for certain Size/compression. MOTUL oil actually calls for 50:1 ratio because of the technology of synthetic Oils. I mix at 40:1 with 110 Octane Sunoco Gas and mine runs sweet. I think i'm gonna end up getting a SAMBA Tuned pipe instead of the Traxxas pipe. Suposed to be the BEST Tuned Pipe made, all the 5th Scale Onroad Racers swear by them. I too just got the Velocity Stack w/K&N, but only a slight diference in proformance. The Samba-pipe is supposed to provide an extra 1+ HPs. You guys might wanna look into it. Hope this helps....-Matt
