    Battery

Based on the dimensions people have come up with for the battery compartment, does anyone have any links to and 2s Lipos that will defintely fit the new Stampede? Looking for the cheapest Lipos possible, and it sounds like the really cheap ones I used in my slash 4x4 might not be fitting in this. Any links?

Is there any reason why your looking at 2S's and not 3S's? Are you thinking a 3S will be too much? Thanks...

    yeah

yeah, I had a 2wd Stampede VXL and 2S was plenty for me lol. At 40 plus MPH I find it hard enough to control and very fast. Not taking a jab at anyone who runs 3S, but 2S is honestly plenty for me.

Keep in mind, the 4X4 drivetrain requires a bit more from the motor so gearing down and running 3S may be preferable than running 2S geared up.

Thanks. I had been a little concerned, hoping it would be fast enough for me with a 3S. I don't want to be disapointed with the acceleration. One time, years ago, I was told that "r/c's probably weren't for you" after expressing disappointment in an 1/8th scale buggy, after a very pricey engine purchase and professional tune up. Haha. I understand that with a brushless/lipo setup, it should be crazy fast though. Thanks...

Keep in mind, that a Slash 4x4 can not be geared correctly with 3s, on Talons , to run cool. So unless they allow a lower gearing on this, I would suspect the same .

I've seen a bunch of people make this comment, and I can only ask. . . do you really think the engineers at Traxxas missed something so obvious and important?

    - Front and rear Shock Guards (note, you CAN run these with the optional swaybars)

    - Stampede 2WD receiver box
    - New gearing to accomodate bigger tires

    - New body mounts

    - Stampede body (same as 2WD Stampede but with 4X4-specific graphics)

That states new gearing, not , wider gearing options. I run the lowest gearing that will fit, on the Slash 4x4, so if they did not actually change the mount, to accomodate a bigger spur, then be prepared for heat problems on 3s.

I'm sorry, but "new gearing to accommodate bigger tires" isn't ambiguous. There is only one possible valid interpretation for that sentence. It means they've allowed for lower gear ratios (smaller pinion, bigger spur) so the truck can cope with its bigger tires.

Well, my interpretation is that it is geared differently then the Slash. I'll leave it at that, until it can be confirmed or denied, that yes it can be geared lower then a Slash.

Why would they gear it differently than the Slash, if not lower? The only other possibilities are that it's geared higher, which would be stupid, or the same but with a slightly different arrangement, which would be pointless and in no way "accommodate bigger tires."

Despite sharing many parts with the Slash 4x4, this is not that truck. The chassis is entirely new, the center driveshaft is different, and the whole thing was designed specifically to run monster truck tires. I'm pretty sure the engineers are aware of the importance of proper gearing.

hopefully the rear skid and chassis can fit up to 58t spurs. I have been thinking of modding my slash 4x4 mt parts to fit a 58.

Those may not fit. The battery compartment size, according to PeterV, is 142 x 48.5 x 25mm. The specs on that website aren't terribly precise; I've got one of those batteries which is advertised at 50mm wide but is actually 48mm wide, so it's possible they'll fit. You'll probably want to stick with 15c or 20c packs, though, as the more powerful ones tend to be just a bit larger and stand a pretty good chance of not fitting.

Thanks for the heads up. I was looking at a 40c pack. If it's pretty close, won't there be little tweaks I can do here or there to get them in?

Sorry for the slight hijack, Murph.

It doesn't look like there's much room to be gained on this truck. I'm sure you could wring out a millimeter or two somewhere, but it won't be like the 2WD where you can gain a centimeter or more in every direction.
