I am using the same thing and they are awsome on my freshly paved street.
Only difference is I have hpi tires on the rims now as they wore out in about 4sets of 3s packs, I was driving it full throttle most of the time.
havnt failed I just found 1000 ways that wont work

There was a fellow last winter on one of the other forums that made his own snow tires using basic straight pins, pushed through from the inside and then cut to length on the outside. He made a video of himself and a friend running at night on an ice rink. I must have worked, as they left snow-roosts behind their cars.

I've noticed that they get SUPER sticky after you wear the glaze off. From that point on, they are pretty awesome... and still wear fast.

I love the look, though. Much more than I expected I would.

Has anyone worn out a set of the stock Traxxas Rally tires?

Mine are showing signs of a little wear with only about 40 or so minutes of run time with the stock battery.

I've got a week on the stockers and they are showing some wear... not that i'll be using them much anymore of course. Drifting loses it's fun pretty quick, i'm really loving the high grip factor of my hpi rally tires. Also found out pretty quick that I didn't glue them properly this morning when letting a friend WOT it causing a tire to fly right off lol Even with a low profile compound that fit super snug it still managed to fly off pretty quick! Note to newbies, scratch the paint off the area to be glued on the rim! lol

What brand wheels/tires fit the Rally? Pretty much standard 24mm TC stuff? I want to get some drift tires and HPI wheels. Do HPI wheels have the right offset and size?

    Thanks

Ive fun for a total of about 45 minutes and my tires have worn down %25 with %75 remaining. I ran a set of HPI X pattern tires and in only 20 minutes they were worn at least %30...

Just downloaded the manual and it says the stock wheels are 26mm and have a +4 offset. From what I read here, zero offset wheels are recommended. Has anyone actually tried zero offset wheels on the rally? Just making sure before I place my order for TC wheels.

    Thanks.

Noticed the same thing with my buddies Rally. Stockers seemed to wear fast through the first few packs and then seem to wear a little less quickly as of now, but still a good amount for the weekend. We threw on an old set of tires I had from when I was racing TC (probably 7 years ago now) and they gripped well, but the little bugger tore them apart (they were pretty worn already), so next was the foams which seemed to fair well. They don't have great grip but not bad either, seems like a hard foam tire may be the way I actually end up going with mine. Lasts pretty long.
Some like R/C's that are fast, others like nitro

    Thanks.
I measured the backspacing on some of my TC wheels. And they are +7mm offset from the center
A zero offset would make the car 14mm wider ??
So is a zero offset TC wheel in reality +7mm offset ??

This is how I calculate offset

    Backspacing = 20mm
    Width = 26mm

    Center 26/2 = 13 mm

    20-13 = +7mm

    And +4mm offset
    4+13 = 17mm backspacing

If this is correct then using my stock TC wheels would make the Rally 6mm narrower

The way you are calculating offset is the way we do it in real life. A wheel with 50 offset (or ET50) will be sticking out less than a wheel with 25mm offset (ET25, the latter sticking out 25mm more).

However with rc wheels, I think they do it a little different. I think that when they talk about +4mm offset, that they mean it will stick out 4mm more. Not sure, but I will find out soon, since I ordered some wheels with +3mm offset

But, I don't think the traxxas wheels are +4mm offset. When I take my digital caliper and measure the distance from hex (not inside hex) to inner wheel bead, it's 13mm. The wheel wide is 26mm, that makes me think these are 0 offset wheels. My schumacher sorex tires with wheels are 0 offset and they have the same specs.
If however I measure inside the hex, then it's 17mm, which is 4mm offset from center :S
The same wheel with 0 offset would make them stick out 4mm more according to the first picture.

    This is getting confusing...
The question is, what is the right way to measure? Inside the hex or not, cause that adds 4mm...

3-is fine and will work on the Rally

6-is right on the fenders front or back, maybe adding some negative camber with clear the tire from rubbing the body.

9-is just to much and the tire will stick out of the body

Going to have to order some of those, as long as the rubber compound isn't too hard.

If I knew they were halfway decent I'd tell you to order two sets, I'll buy the other from you.
They look like a great general purpose tire.

Just an FYI, these also come premounted on that website. They do look pretty good though, should hook up well in the loose stuff.

I've read where others have tried the Slash tires, and found the car rolled over too easy.
But for your purposes, running in the snow and on slick ice, they should work fine. Any heavy treaded or lugged tire should do the trick. I have some HPI Rally tires and they work well too.

I also tried fairly smooth cement. Didn't traction roll, but didn't slide easily either. All the rough surfaces are covered with snow currently.

Trying out some street/carpet rubber on some new rims, and i'm seeing how running a zero offset will work out with the added traction.

really behind the curve on these mini's. looking on ebay, and found these and am wondering if they are too big for the rally:

look at the second pic in this listing, looks like they could possibly fit the rally.

in the second pic of the second link it shows a pic of them mounted. looks smaller than the stock merv tires. Also says the merv tires will not fit the rims and the tires will not fit the merv rims in the first and third link. I was just hoping as those tires look great. oh well...

Wouldn't a bunch of short bits of piano wire work for that too? Maybe cut a strip into 1/8" pins and jam them into the tread of the tires and drop a bit of CA to hold them in place afterward.
