Easy 1/16 erevo to rally conversion?

Its just body posts, front bumper, wheels and body right?
What am I supposed to write in 50 characters?

The Rally uses the Slash a-arms, the E-Revo ones will be too long. Also the shocks are the same, but the springs are different. I posted whats needed to convert from the Slash to Rally in another thread.

I was wrong, the shocks are different. They use the same shock body and shafts, but have a travel limiter on them to make them shorter, and use a different piston.

Honestly it doesn't look like it will do too well offroad with being so low, it looks more like a drifter with a rally body. What I'm wondering about though is how it would perform offroad with the longer 1/16th Slash shocks, to give it a bit more height.

The Rally uses the same arms as the 1/16 Slash, so if you're starting out with a Revo, you'll need the shorter arms.

Shocks have limiters inside, pistons with smaller holes, and are filled with heavier fluid.

Diffs are filled with heavier fluid.

Body, wheel, and tires, of course.

Different gearing to suit TC-size wheels.

The shock bodies are the same, they just put a travel limiter inside to sorten them up.

Thats not an actual pic, just an illustration. Look at the part numbers in both the parts listings and the exploded views, the shock bodies are the same. They just put limiters on the shafts to shorten them, as well as a different piston and oil.

A quote from PeterV from the other thread:

The suspension is lowered with limiters in the shocks, the piston valving is different, and the shocks are filled with thicker fluid. The diffs also have thicker fluid. The engineering department logged a lot of wheel time getting the feel just right, so you can slide it waaay out through the turns but still collect it and power down the straights with traction.

Put a piece of fuel tubing on the shaft inside the shock, it works great.

It's amazing how this hasn't even been released yet and there's talk already on how to attempt to convert a Slash into a Rally. Then there's the talk on how to make this an off-road vehicle. Are you guys serious???? Doesn't Traxxas have enough off-road vehicles already?? I enjoy the creativity but wow!!!

i really just want the body mounts and bumpers, really. the stock merv bumper really isn't great, and i like the idea of a jacked up 4 wheel drive porsche carrera 911 monster truck with a set of proline beadlocks skinned with some road rage rubber, all clad with the classic gulf racing colours, and decked out in a whole multitude of led lamps...

    that's all

Ya onroad is sweet but we aren't talking about soaring jumps and all that, just able to handle some groomed dirt or some rough asphalt. Not everyone has a nice groomed on road track near them but I want to buy a scale looking car that is capable of looking awsome sliding through some dirt (to a degree) and being able to race onroad just as well.

i agree with you but if you look closer the name of the car is "RALLY" and all you see in the video is drifting... theres nothing rally about that.... it must be capable of off roading, otherwise "Rally VXL" is not so Rally

I think it will be capable of off-road racing, well
not on the super-cross style 10 Ft jump tracks in the US but on our European tracks that are more like short course tracks with rolling jumps

And the best part of the Rally VXL is that you can use the Tamiya Rally block tyres and all the cool 1,9" drifter wheels

the rally block tyres are utter rubbish, in my opinion... they were on my df03ra, when i built it up, and i did the next logical thing and stuck it on my merv.

they wear out terribly quickly, and were reduced pretty much to a bit of thin rubber... but then, it was on my merv

Gymkhana rally is basically urban drifting...
    its a misleading name.
someone posted this video in another thread earlier:

Its pretty neat actually, but rally it is not.

I dont understand why the tires suddenyl blow out in the end... it must have been set up that way...

I imagine that the 1/16 slash 4x4 will become popular again. Its not that greatest on road (pretty bad actually), but now it's the perfect base for the Rally conversion.

Spacers in the shocks, new wheels, tires, bumpers and body and its perfect for on road.

I have put 1/10th tires on my merv and it goes ok but the gearing is off so besides the easy stuff like getting the different rockers, shocks, arms, body posts, drive shafts... If we can find out the difference in the gearing this is a easy conversion...

the reason the tires blew out like that is because of the heat and abuse the tires took going full blast and they we're hard compound racing slicks! and yes it should be easy to convert a slash

does anyone have a complete parts number list to convert from 1/16 Revo/Slash to Rally? i imagine some things won't be on it like body/wheels but a list for everything else would be great.

if i ever get one, i want to replicate this:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFF2bkiHNVQ

    all. of. it.

as far as i'm concerned, driving on fine dirt like that counts as rallying. real wrc rally isn't held on woefully uneven surfaces, it's smooth compared to trucks designed to compete in the paris dakar rally, for example...

... actually, a bowler wildcat shell on the rally with jumped up suspension wouldn't be such a bad idea...

i'll even build a little james may and ken block doll to sit inside mine

itīs more easy to do it from a slash, you will need less parts.

Here are pics of the shock mod to do an ERBE GT (Vette body). These are 1/10 scale but same process.

These are stock next to shortened version. These can still be fine tuned with pre-load position but you want to start with the softest spring set first as it will stiffen the suspension.
