My Revo conversion, just about done!

I thought Id finally complete a project I started about 15-20 months ago heheh. Its not complete yet tho.. I still have to mount the esc a bit better, lock second gear, and for the time being, figure out how to setup the brake so i dont have to use the thumb switch lol. I honestly dont like how the motor sits, so I will either order the RC Monster mount, or the new style Tekno mount.

Very nice! God I miss my Conversion.

Actually it´s pretty simple if you know how to. Go to your LHS, buy a Y adapter for servo wires, use the splitter in the throttle channel, plug in the esc and the servo, Whoola you´ve got breaks and 2speed .

It looks like that truck can take some serious abuse

Sweet! Thanks man, I have the splitter, so Im going to try it as soon as I get home from work! Awsome!

I will probably just run it with 4s, 6s thorws the balance way off, 4s is nearly perfect

    Nice!

Yeah 4s is plenty with the two speed since you can gear higher ( more speed ) without overheating. Which results in wheelies wheelies wheelies standing backflips and other funny things .

Let us know how it went with the breaking

    Definately!

I still have my erevo, so Im used to the wheelies and backflips heheh. Im not sure what my plan is for this truck to be honest.. Ive had the parts forever, and I just got sick of seeing parts laying everywhere, so this helped with some of the clutter heheh. I am haveing my doubts about the pinion, not too sure how long it will hold with a single grub screw holding it in place. Thats the main reason why I was thinking of getting the RCM mount, or the newer style tekno one, just so that I can use a regular pinion

The new style Tekno mount is nice. If you can find a bit smaller 5s pack the balance isn't too bad. I run hyperion 4200mah 5s 35c lipos. I can't imagine needing, or being able to use, more power than that. I also have 5000mah 4s 40c *******s that my son will be using in his revo (whenever the postman decides to deliver it).

5s would be fine.. I have some 40c 2s packs and they are "ok" But I learned how to drive my E-Revo with 6s, I love the power, hate the weight 5s woud be a tasteful blend of power I think. Crazy but not insane, manageable but not boreing

Well, I drove this setup for the very first time today..

    And I like it

Do I like it better then my E-Revo?

I think so.. It needs a bit of tweaking, but thats fine.

I havent drivein it with 6s yet, but with 4s it was fairly efficient. I was out there for about a half hour messing around, and came in with 48% left in the packs. The skid plate is awsome, you can slide accross curbs with ease, and no damage heheh. I played alot in the grass mainly because I couldnt find my splitter and had no brakes or reverse.. The motor, esc, and lipos stayed fairly cool, the fan didnt come on at all, wich was very surpriseing. I know if it was the erevo it would have come on for sure. Its geared 16/38 right now. I forgot about the 2 speed trans lol.. Ive never actually heard it shift on its own before, I used to listen to the nitro motor for it lol. Over all i ts a pretty cool truck, I like it!

Well, I re-adjusted my steering, re-located my ant. and took it to my buds place last nite for a quick boot with 4+6s. It moved around pretty good in its current gearing state, its not as agressive an an erevo is, it seems more.. refined. I like it alot. Theres a neat little jump in his parking lot at the apt. he manages, got some good shots of the skid plate sparking when I landed. I love the white sparks It actually flew decently with my heavy 3s packs. It was easier to correct in the air then a regular erevo, but maybe its just me, I dont know.. I thought I had esc troubles last night, but when I got home all it ended up being was the esc was not firmly plugged into the Y harness, so it was messing with things a bit. Overall, I am very satisfied. This thing runs very cool, even with 6s. I am contmplateing going to 17/36 to use the power a little more effectively. The 2 speed is neat, but I have to lower the shift point because its messing with me lol. And I do like the mechanical brakes, its a bit weird not hearing the motor hum when you jam the brake. I do miss reverse tho..

Looks great bro. I agree with you as for liking my conversion better than the erbe. Like you said, it's not as fast but smooth and silky. I run 4s with second locked and it's a blast. One suggestion for you would be to fab up some kind of support brace under the corner end on the battery tray. Mine started to bend down after a couple jumps. I made a mount and drilled 2 joles into the chassis and now it's stiffer than a door knob. I was running 17/38/36 and heat was around 145* on the motor so I decided to try 20/36. The heat went down and speed went up. a lot better with that gearing. Anyways it looks great man.

Thanks! Where were you takling about the brace? The rear seems fine to me, but the front is hanging off of the servo tab

So you are running 4s with 20/36? Do you just run on the street, or do you take it to the dirt and grass too? Do you run plastic gears in the trans? Im useing the RR wide ratio, I also have RR standard ratio as well.. But to trim some weight I was thinking about dropping in the plastics heh.. That is if they can take the power.. Im not sure tho because I was stripping topshaft gears with my 21tm with relative ease.. I would like to lock it in second so I can copy ajb1205's esc location. I think he has it were the brake rotor goes. I like that idea. Or maybe that was yours I saw?

This is what I did for the corner of the battery tray.

Oh, you should be fine with that. What conversion kit is that and how did you get it so far forward. I use the Tekno kit and the rx box is in the way of pushing it forward.

Heres a couple of closer shots, I just took em now.

The esc mounting is a bit ghetto. Ill fix that soon

Well! I traded my E-Revo chassis, and almost all of the parts that it needs to operate, as well as some hopups for a really nice MBX5 buggy. But before I did that, I grabbed some parts from it. I also scooped a hitec 7955TG, its much better then my old airtronics rockcrusher 200oz servo. I think for now Im going to leave the mechanical brake, and I will convert it to single speed when I break the pins inside heheh.

I´m very glad to hear that you are pleased

    How are you geared?

Edit: I saw now, that you first tried 16/36. I would step up to something similar to Divey, maybe 18 or 19 on the pinion, it really wakes things up, on 4s.

    Thank you sir

Its still geared for nitro, at 16/38. I was busy with a couple of other projects, so I havent changed the gearing yet It goes ok, not like my erevo did, but its because of the gears.. The one good thing is that the fan rarely comes on, well.. It rarely came on when I was useing the Tekin motor. I havent drivein it yet with the cc one. The Tekin is lighter then the CC is, but I threw the green can in becasue my Revo is much heavier then my truggy is, so I know it will benefit from the green one. We dont have snow yet, so maybe today I will stop and grab a pinion and spur and maybe get 1 last drive in before the season ends. It makes me a bit sad. Its not that I dont like driveing in the winter, but it goes from +30c in the summer, down -40c or colder, real cars dont even like to work when its that cold

Back to the gearing, if I want to use a bigger pinion, I must get a smaller spur first, but Im maxed out where I am right now, there is noo more room. I dont even have to set my mesh lol, its already done for me

Okay! Well, I just got an 18t pinion, it was the biggest they had for the long shank type that I need to use on this truck. I also bought a 36t spur, I should have gotten the plastic, I know I will regret it, but whatever!

    Edit:

I was hopeing a new page would start, all those pictures are a bit annoying lol

Alright, well I just took it for a boot out on the front street. It feels like it maybe a touch overgeared for 4s, for 5s it should be pretty intense. I could be used to my T8-2250 tho, it revs higher then the CC motor, and its lighter.

Overall tho it ran good, I have a damaged foam on the right rear, wich is fine, these tires have had alot of use! The machine is good, its heavy tho, there is alot of steel on it tho heh. One thing that concerns me tho, is when I hear the click of the 2speed kick in I always think its going to implode on itself

By the way, I bought an Integy spur, it sounds kinda funny, we shall see how it holds up
