    In-cabin air cleaner

So, every time I drive my car, the A/C smells soooo bad like dirt and a weird smell, and tried to find out that the filter is removable from behind the glove-box, I opened it and found noting, I drive a 96 Nissan Maxima. I've searched another car (Honda Accord09) and found it, someone told me that older cars don't come factory with the filter, or maybe I'm searching the wrong place.
    I expect the unexpected.

Have you tried you're local mechanic? I looked on Google for a few minutes but couldn't find anything about it.

If you plan on doing other repairs to the car get a haynes manual, they can be found for like 15 bucks and are worth WAY more than that, for situations just like this. Sometimes the cabin filter is accessed through the engine bay, they are always in different places, some are a total pain to get to.

Easiest way to find out is call a local napa and ask them if they have one in stock. They can tell you right away if they had one in your car or not.

You can check online on auto parts centers (such as O'reilly, AutoZone and others) under your vehicle to see if they have a part number for a cabin air filter. If so then it should be behind the dash. Maybe some of them put them behind the engine in front of the passenger too. A Haynes manual, as mentioned, is great too.
When I worked at an auto parts/hardware store, I bought a spray that I could spray into the air intake under the windshield and through the vents that would essentially get rid of the mold that created the musty smell. It has worked great. You may want to try that or something that eliminate mold.

If all else fails, get some OUST, turn the AC on high and "recirculate" and spray down in the vents like double G explained and let it get sucked through. Empty the whole can as fast as possible and get out, leave it all closed up for a while running so as to not kill the battery, then go out later and shut the car off and open the windows.

Napa carries the in-cabin air filter for my 2001 Altima. I installed it as a retrofit and it works great. From your description it sounds like they're in the same location, behind the glove box. Installation was pretty simple.

Spray down the vents with the fan on high probably better to spray into the air intake that is above the passenger foot well it may have a blocked evaporator drain hose causing a build up of water in the ac box, easiest way to tell if its blocked is to park on concrete with ac running ,a small puddle of water should appear on the ground on the passenger side of the car behind the front wheel after a couple of minutes or so,hope this helps

Personally, instead of a Haynes manual, I would go straight for the real thing and get the repair manuals created by Nissan and used by Nissan dealers for your specific model and year.
