    Yard Sale find

Found this during a community yard sale event that my neighborhood and about 5 surrounding neighborhoods do every summer. Guy had $75 on it. I had $53 on me and brought it home. It is a basket case, but it does appear to be all there for all I know. He said it has sat for 3 years and that the engine was froze up when he tried to start it this year. He told me that he did not have the patience, time or knowledge to fix it. I have never owned a boat before, so I thought I would give it a try.

I brought it home and tried to spin the flywheel and it was locked up. So I took the carb, head, and exhaust off. The piston was all the way up top and stuck. I cleaned the carb and then sprayed PB blaster around the bottom of the piston through the exhaust port and around the top of the piston. Let it soak for awhile, then took the handle of my tuneing screwdriver and worked the piston down. Worked it back and forth until it moved freely. Hooked all the water lines and stuff up and I hope they are hooked up to the right places! I used pictures I found online to get an idea. Then I took it outside and sat it in a big tub of water. Put some fresh nitro in it, hooked the ignitor to it and it fired right up! Seems to run just fine. I cant wait to go hit the lake with it! I have 3 spare .15 engines, so if this one ends up giving out on me I atleast have a good spare.

With a little work, that could be a great boat! Nice find!

Nice find Alanky! Nitro Vee is a great boat! Mine is 10+ years old and I still play with it. Just completely disassemble it for cleaning and inspection. Take your time inspecting all the parts when you reassemble, including the engine. To me, this is part of the fun! I love taking something old and making it near new again.
All the parts are still available for it if you happen to need anything. Happy Hobby'ing!

I have found an issue! I took it out to a little pond to just see it move before I tore it all apart to clean up. When I got out there I flipped the switch on the boat and nothing worked. I had my tool box with me and had a hump pack battery in there. I unpluged the battery lead on the reciever and just plugged the hump pack right into the reciever, by-passing the switch. Everything came to life as I thought it would. So I took it back home and pulled that black plastic piece out that all the electronics mount to. Somebody has butchered the wiring all up on this thing. There are wire nuts and jack-leg solder joints all through it. Not having any luck finding a wiring diagram online to see how it is all supposed to be. Guess it will be awhile to figure that out. On the plus side, it is all apart and ready to clean now. Wonder if I could find a switch with the harness for this thing somewhere instead of making one.

One more question. There is a tube going from the exhaust down to a nipple on the engine driven shaft. What does this actually do? Everything else I can kind of make a guess on, but I was just curious as to what that actually does.

Traxxas part number 3034 should be what you're looking for as far as the wiring harness goes. It is an on/off switch with an RX pack connector (and a charge jack, too).

As for the tube... it's probably for lubrication. The unburnt oil will go from the exhaust to the drive shaft, vs. all of it just shooting out the exhaust.

Just put a pull start on it.

For the tube that is supposed to lube the shaft bearing/bushing, just clip a shoty piece of fuel tubing and leave it sticking up. Fill it up with a little oil and you're good. Change out the header with soemthing better and take out the baffles in the exhaust. You'll run better. The manual says to run like airplane fuel or something - just run some 20%!

I actaully put a Pro.15 cooling head on mine instead of the water cooled head. Then I wrapped some copper tuning in through the lower part of the fins to add additional cooling for WOT conditions on the vee. I found that the water cooled head wasn't good enough for trying to get the boat on a plane - with little water flowing through it. Use an Octura prop and get better acceleration. You'll find lots of past advice on here. Its OK to experiment with, but the boat has lots of limitations and its plastic.

Sweet boat! I wonder if anyone's put a 3.3 in it!

Anybody know where I can find an engine cover for this boat? It is part number 3513. I have ebay searched, google searched, and called Traxxas with no luck. I really need to find one!

Also I see they sell a 2.5 water cooled head. This is interesting since I have 3 good 2.5's sitting around. Two from t-maxx's and one from a rustler. I know throttle linkage and exhaust would need modification and that is no issue. Does the clutch and other driveline stuff swap right over to the 2.5?

Thanks for all the advice guys!

I'd do a quick search here, some people have installed 2.5's in their N-Vee's. The biggest problem is with a part in the drive line failing- a drive shaft coupler, or something along those lines.

THe Pro-15 clutch parts will fit on a 2.5 crank.
