new to nitro
I have recently purchased a 4 tec and I am expecting it within a week. The only problem is I have never ran a nitro before and I am very open for suggestions! I have had experience with cheap electrics in the past but nothing like this.

watch its handling, not the best in the world at all. Easy to go into a curb at 40 mph!!

What should be the first thing I could do to avoid or prevent this?

GLAD TO HAVE YOU ABOARD SMOKNJO. FIRST OF ALL READ READ READ YOU OWNERS MANUAL,THATS A MUST, DON'T OPEN THE BOX AND GUN THE CAR.YOU NEED TO BREAK IN THE MOTOR FIRST. DO THIS IN A VERY OPEN, EMPTY AREA, TAKE YOUR TIME.THIS IS A WORLD AWAY FROM CHEAP ELEC. CARS. I KNOW! HAVE FUN WITH THE CAR. THEN YOU'LL WANT TO RACE OTHERS. IF YOU WANT TO GET INTO COMP.RACEING START SLOW . TALK TO OTHER PEOPLE AND READ SOME RC MAGAZINES TALK TO THE PEOPLE AT YOUR LHS (LOCAL HOBBY SHOP).IT CAN GET VERY EXPENSIVE. GOOD LUCK WITH IT. I'M SOME WHAT NEW ALSO BUT GLAD TO HELP IF I CAN!!!

THESE THING ARE TO MUCH FUN YA'LL!

Give yourself 1 1/2 to 2 hours to break in the engine when you are ready. Take it SLOW! at first. Also - test the radio signal's max. distance before you go crazy with the car (its described in the manual). That is how I crashed my N4tec the first time - I lost radio signal and it flew into a curb about 75' out

May I suggest that you also add a throttle return spring...that way if your signal gets lost at least it can slow itself down a little. Another good idea is to use electrical tape to hold the receiver battery pack together...I've had wild run aways because of power shut down.
Always check to make sure all screws are threaded all the way in...I had a throttle servo screw come off...no throttle return spring...and as fast as I could run, I just couldn't catch my n'4tec blastin' away at 50mph!!!! ROF****!!!!!!!!!
Go easy on the gas until you are familiar with the characteristics of the car...otherwise good luck & hope you have a great time!

second place is the first loser...

I bought it used from someone off of ebay, so I believe it is broken in. It should arrive this week so I'll read the manaul and consider what you said. Thanks for all the help!

Since its used, what hop ups are on it all ready if any? Also make sure that there is nothing wrong with it. I saw a used Nitro 4-Tec for sale at my LHS once and look looked fine from the outside. But I checked the servos, and the throttle one had stripped gears, you could tell my the steering linkang when you took a close look that this guy was a basher! He was selling it for 300 because it had big bore shocks, and sway bars, but still had the CHEEZY Start on it.
Best of luck with your new car, and welcome to the better, faster, louder class of nitro!

9 years of R/C racing CAN'T go wrong!

From pictures I have seen of the car it has scratches on the bottom of the chassis, but I guess this problem comes from normal wear. The guy said he ran a gallon of gas through it but didnt mention anything about hop-ups. I know it comes with ez-start but I have been debating about taking it off or leaving it on, it is my first nitro but so many people have complained about it on the message board that maybe I should chunk it! Thank you for all of the replys this forum is ALOT of help.
