    Upgrades

I am looking to upgrade my sons Slash and don't want to waste money. I was wondering if anyone could help me out with good upgradable parts and whether I should go with aluminum or stick with plastic. I am also looking to make it as light as possible.

it depends on what parts your looking to upgrade but for the most part plastic will be better because aluminum will just bend and you will end up replacing it anyways. check out rpm's stuff they have a lot of high quality/durability parts for the slash and other traxxas vehicles.

if you are looking to upgrade just because you want to i can tell you that the only part i have broken after a year of semi hard bashing is the rear bearing carriers, and that only happened because i was learning how to jump and kept landing sideways. actually now that i think of it i did chip a piece off the bumper mount groove. this is probably the most annoying part i have found. with any sort of jumping you will find it will pop out and end up dragging a big clump of dirt and grass with you. rpm has a bumper mount that fixes this. another issue is the gear cover. the stock one has a hole in the bottom. with it on i had to clean my gears almost every pack. since then i have taken it off and havent had any issues with sand or rocks getting stuck in the gears.

with brushed set ups you dont really have to worry about it but if you go brushless and dont get your gears set perfectly you may end up stripping out your spur gear. this can be fixed by changing the gears to 32p. they are a lot more durable and wont strip out. you wont be able to run the gear cover but with the big gears nothing will get caught in them anyway.

as far as performance parts id say lipo/brushless system would give you the most fun. playing around with different weights of shock oil will make the truck better for you depending on what type of driving or bashing you do.

RPM stuff is the way to go I've never broken an RPM part and they have a lifetime warranty
on the other hand aluminum isnt bad because I've bent any aluminum parts but they are a little heavy and cost more (waste of money since RPM parts never break)

the RPM front bumper on my Pede is about 6 yrs old. It's pretty scratched up but in great shape. I can't count all the things I've run into...
