Cheap lipos can be good if all you want is a cheap lipo. If its your first one theres no shame in buying a cheap one. In general, a better lipo will last longer and generally, cheap lipos lack customer service from the companies that manufacture them. BUT, again, if you jsut want to try lipo out, cheap one could be a good way to go.
The truth is, there are 3 levels of lipos in terms of price, cheap, middle and expensive. You can get a great lipo (like a venom... which is what I like) for $50-60. Sometimes less. SPC is also a great brand name and isnt much more. I dont know if you get more with a $100+ dollar lipo. I would never buy one thats for sure. If your getting a 2S... at least look at getting a hardcase. The peace of mind is nice.

The only 2 lipo chargers ive used are a Venom Pro and a Dynamite Passport ultra. The venom is cheaper and does everything the passport will do but it maxes out at 5amps for the charge rate. BUT, it also comes with the needed charge lead adapters. Wheres as the dynamite doesnt.

DO NOT BUY THE EBAY ONES!!! THEY BLOW UP!!!

Now that that's out of the way, hobby king batteries are good if you get around the small restrictions. (Connector, shipping from HK) They can get you good ones for about $30 shipped.

It's just a different kind of connecter. You will need to cut it off and solder a new Traxxas connecter on. It generally isn't hard but those wires are very thick so it can be a bit tricky.

The Tenergy LiPo's are nice if your on a budget. My fried has 2 2s1p 20c 5000mah packs. Got them off of Amazon.com for $44 shipped for the set. I have an SPC 2S1P 20C 8000mAh LiPo and its nice, but it makes everything get very hot very fast (like within 20mins) and its good for 1hr or so of runtime. The Tenergy packs are good for 30-40mins of runtime (no joke). Me and my friend both use a ******* AccuCell 6 charger, does everything we want/need it do and hasnt let either of us own yet. Keep in mind both of the batteries I mentioned will require modifications to fit properly, but that info can be found very easily on the forums.

If you want something cheap and don't mind a smaller capacity, the budget 2800mAh from SPC is something to consider. USA and great service from the guys there. That's my next battery.

That is very odd as there as no reason for this as long as the pack is in good condition. Sounds more like an over gearing issue.

I can think of no reason why that would help heat issues.

I think he means something else. Changing to 32p gearing has nothing to do with heat issues.

I can't say enough good things about the Venom Pro charger. I've had mine for quite a while with no problems. It has all the plug adapters you'll need and charges and balances any Nimh or Lipo battery.

The only thing with that charger is that you can only charge at 5 amps. Although it is a good charger, you can find higher amp, and better chargers in my books.
