    jato parts stripping the screws....

I had an accident with my jato. i needed to replace the shock tower along with the lower and upper bulkhead. no problem. i realized those parts are not pre threaded. i applied some oil but my screws kept stripping. all the screws on the shock tower stripped but they are in already. pretty much i am screwed right? how to get those screws out for future?now they are staying in. what are the suggestions? thanks

Usually the hex wrench itself will strip before the screw does. So I bet you have a partially strip wrench with a partially strip screw.

Here is what you do get a new key set of hex wrenches from your local hardware store. Make sure they include metric and SAE sizes (Should be around $5 for the set.) Now find the best fit wrench for the screw and it should come out. I did this method many of times when I thought I didn't have a chance getting the screw out.

Worst case scenario that you will have to drill the screw out.

not the bulkhead, it is the shock tower that attaches to the top bulkhead

If the head of the screw is visible, try to turn it out with pliers.

go to sears and get a automatic center punch. put the point on the head of the screw at an angle so it will turn the screw head, youl have to hit it a number or times. it acts like an impact wrench.

if i were you i'd just drill it till the head falls off then when you take whatever it is off use niddle nose pliers and unscrew it the rest of the way out! i have to do this as a matter of fact right now to the aluminum bumper mount!!

I think he's referring to what I know as a "Spring Loaded Punch." A very popular tool among emergency service workers and burglars for their ease of shattering tempered glass auto windows.

    sorry i didnt respond sooner.
Aberg12012 is right, its first use is to put a center punch mark without useing a hammer. just put the punch on the screw head at an angle that will loosen the screw, and push hard. you may have to do it 4-5 times.

get a drumel or wat ever, then get a little circular saw/grinder thingy, grind a notch into the screw head and u got a flat head screw, then find youself a flat head screw driver.
