    lipo balance problem

i have an smc 2s 5200mah batt and it will not balance completely, after i run it (first run) it was out 0.7 of a volt so i balance charged it at 5.2 amps with my dynamite passport ultra and it wont even come close to balancing after being on charge for about 200 mins (around 3.5 hrs). The first run i had with it, it was perfectly balanced and when i was done i let it "rest" for a lil wile and put it on harge and boom 0.7 of a volt off. What gives, i have to call smc, or could it be my charger? should i just charge it more and more so it gets close to balance or what? Thanks Guys...

Which pack is it?What is the C rating? I would contact SMC about it.They are really good about handling issues with their batteries.

Yeah, definitely get ahold of SMC.I have owned two of those 24C packs and they are IMO one of the best quality packs I've seen. Both of mine always stayed in perfect balance every time.I used a stand alone balancer and neither pack ever got more than .02 out of balance.I also had the 5200 40C and that pack was nice, but every once in awhile it would go out of balance enough to make the balancer do it's job.It was no big deal, but the 24C packs were always so close that they never triggered the balancer. One of those packs is well over a year old and has seen countless cycles.

+1. I have the same charger but use a Common Sense Pro Balancer.Very similar to the Blinky, but the Pro Balancer also displays individual cell voltages constantly.

yah i think i will get a separate balancer, blinkys work well right? i checked out that common sense one too, what do you guys think... the balancer on my charger works but it is very slow because of how far out of balance the pack is. Thanks Again Guys!!

not to steal this thread...but I have a new (one week old) venom 11.1 5400 lipo that only has about 10 cycles on....its been balance charged every time (AC6)...nast night one cell was behind .11 should I discharge it and try again...or is the battery just junk?....I have the vxl 3s on my truck with a cut off and every other time Ive went to charge it the numbers were 3.94ish per.......what would cause this? no impact besides roll overs in the truck (flipping backwards) any help would be great

I'm not sure how high of a discharge rate the Blinky has,but the Commen Sense has a fairly low rate.Luckily I've never had a pack go too far out of balance. It would probably take me a long time to balance one that was .5v or more off.But at least I have a digital cell voltage display,so I can have a general idea of how much longer it will take.

I had the same problem with my venom 5400 20c 3s
It ended up shorting itself in the shrink wrap. Go figure.
If it takes forever to balance charge you might get away with a stand alone unit but I think that wack cell will puff within the next couple of runs.
I ended up disassembling the pack and getting rid of the dropped cell. Also now I have a ***** 3s starting to do the same thing. The ***** I can live with. 9 bucks. Just make my 2s *****s into 3s.
And I'm using the accucel 6. Nothing ever wrong with my 2s just the 3s and 4s.
I gotta start charging them for storage. I was told to leave them between 3.7 and 3.9v per cell. Both 3s were idle at a full charge for more then 3 days. You guys think that could be the culprit?
Traxxas should just cash my checks for me
