FINALy i got my gallery 1/2 working again and able to upload a pic..

Here is the SOLID block of Premium MDF wood in the back of my Jeep on its way to the CNC Monday... Its currently being milled as we speak..

Should be ready for pickup this weekend or monday.. I will have to do a little touching up with some sand paper when its done, and then i can take it to the thermalformer..

Pics of the final machined prototype to come when i pick it up

The truck is milled in 5 different parts.. roof/middle, left and right ends, back door, front door, and all of them are "layed out" on the CNC. Its hard to explain, but ill get some pics of it while its milling and you will see what i mean

Here, Make more sense now :P

Its a poor photoshop job, but it will work

Highest part is the middle of the truck, which is somewhere around 4 and a bit inches high.

I thought you would just mill a block of wood into one solid piece will all oh the sides instead of milling different parts and having to put them together to make your mold

CNC machines tend to be only 2 axis

There are some that are on arms that can also do a Y at the same time.. or some that thier bed the part is on rotates while it works, but its not worth the expense to use one for a small 1 off project like this.

I think the guys that have been following these thread from day one and 2 should be the first ones to get to buy a body. I know if they get made full way I want one mabie 2. so im keeping a close eye on this thread to see what happens.

The start of the milling process, straight from the C&C company

Little further along in the process, this is one of the side panels being roughly milled out.

when they get me pics of the more detailed "finishing" process, Ill post

    Awesome project.

1 small question that has burning in my pocket for awhile while I have watched in awe.

Remember the copyright infringement Proline had with VW. Could you be in the same realm? Especially if you sell them.

As ive posted on page 3, im not too concerned

"Its not likely hummer/am general is going to drop a lawsuit on my desk for producing a handfull of Hummer "Like" bodies for personal use on my RC car, specially since i wont be trying to sell these things commercially or in large quantities like Jconcepts did with the Ford Raptor body. I'm not actually using the hummer name anywhere either, nor am I re-producing an exact replica of one of their trucks.. its modeled after the Rally body.. if anyone's going to have a problem, I think it would likely end up being Robby Gordon"

Its not likley the handfull i do will catch any/much attention from someone like AM general and generate a buz to the point that it would even be worth thier expense to draft up the legal documents and send them to me in the first place.. maybe if i was planning to incpororate myself as an RC body manufacturer and going to produce 40,000 of these things, then sure.. but for say a limited run of 50, 10 of which ill keep for myself, and 40 ill sell, just because my minimum was 50 and what would i do with them all anyhow... i dont think anyones going to care

The body you are making wouldn't bother AM general, it would probably bother GM since it is more similar to the H2 they make then the military spec hummer AM general makes

Nice, i just caught wind of this thread and im pretty sure you can count me and several of my friends in on one of these bodies if not two. Nice work man. Your little side project may make you a wealthy man in the long run. I can see these selling pretty well.

Im really anxious to see this turn out. Have you possibly thought of working with soapstone, it mills really well and is perfect for fine detail and will not distort over time with use.

I doubt he will have copyright problems as Hummer is now dead and like hes saying its not an exact replica of a Hummer model

    lol
    how about now?

CNC guy sent me a "sneak preview"

I just need to asemble it together with some carpenders glue, and ill probably end up dilling/screwing it from the back into all the panels just to ensure they are rock solid when it goes to the thermal forming process.

Some light sanding to round out some of the edges from the modeling process, and I should be ready to go!

Now, just waiting to hear from the thermalforming companies on the setup / Lexan costs per shell.

Ill take some better pics later this week as I put together the project and get it all sanded
