    broken front right axle!?!?

broke the plastic housing that connect to the pin on the drive shaft. i have been looking at exploded view on traxxas website and it has no part number. i did a google search and found that there there are two different parts, traxxas half shaft set long (pn# 5656), and half shaft set short(pn# 5655). then i found a thread in the forum that states because of the differential housing that the their are two different sizes. will probably buy a set of both, since they are reasonably inexpensive. my question is how to replace it?? how do you get the pin out and reset in the plastic housing?? do you grip it with a pair of pliers and yank it out or is there some skill involved?? do i need any locktite at all. which ones on the truck are short and which are long?? thanks in advance for you help.

there is a set screw in the end of the tube which the pin goes through. the best way is to take the screw out of the stub shaft coming off the diff, remove the wheel and adapter, take the whole axle out of the summit because it is very hard to get into the small set screw while in the truck. and yes locktite on the set screw is a very good thing

    ^ Good answer, quadiak.

Actually, the parts are on the exploded view here:

What I never have and never will understand is why, in R/C, axles are referred to as drive shafts. Personally, I identify parts as I would on a 1:1.

They're not hard to replace, you'll do fine.

#5655 are the shorter axles, on the left front and right rear.
#5656 are the longer axles, on the right front and left rear.

yup, blue locktite, and a very good fitting allen wrench, they tend to strip easily.
