I did that to a set of mashers...... Not a good idea to run 3s with screws sticking out.

Just tried it in the backyard.

Nunster is right, on power it wants to go straight. It pushes badly with the stockers up front.

However the traction is unbelievable. It hooks. Literally. Very little wheelspin. I felt like it was overpowering the slipper at times.

The first wheel I did isn't as good, I measured the diameter, which oddly was 9 inches even. Then I made a table in word that had rows .9 inches tall, so there's 10 in each row around the wheel. Then I eyeballed the rows on the first one.

Next tire, rows .45 inches, use every other row, columns .3 inches, now I had a perfect grid to drill on, so the screws on the second wheel look much better.

I think the next step is to make some fronts so I don't push as badly, and maybe find some new rims for the rear so I can lay down a perfect grid on both and have them even.

Oh and the truck is filling up with grass, its just tearing it out of the ground.


I only ran about 10 minutes, but everything still looks square. I expected it to tweak the screws or tear them out of the rim. This might be a killer grass setup, its literally cleats for the truck.

I went to hobbytown and bought a set of JC concepts wheels. Relux I think, then I went home and got to drilling. These wheels are 3 inches in diameter, and had 12 ribs inside. I made a new grid and got to drilling.



This thing is crazy fast on the backyard track. I tightened the slipper, and it wheelies all over the place. It hold corners so hard. I'm surprised considering I only have 12 pins in each front. They'll have 48 when I'm done.



But I have a ton of work to do. I ran out of screws since these take more. I should consider loctite, although they haven't come loose yet.

I have the rims on backwards, on accident. So I have to add a ton of spikes to the fronts, and make them the rears.

I'm a little afraid of the thing too. If its cartwheeling, its a little like someone throwing a table saw at you. Most of the sides are harmless.... most.

I don't think the 4wd would be much different. These wheels hook, they don't slide. The 4wd is nice in low traction, but this is the opposite.

Its all rain today, so I doubt I'm going to run, but its a good day to get the rest of the pins installed. I'm taking out the gyro too, its not needed with this setup.

I wonder if you could make a really nice looking pair by punching a ton of holes in a pair of street tires with a low profile, then just putting those over the spikes...so the spikes stick out of the tire.
It would be alot stronget than having the screws only in the tire rubber.

like, have the order of parts from the inside out:
screw head : wheel rim : screw nut : low profile street tire : sharp end of screw
it would look amazing!, and be spectacularly fast to boot...

It is more of an asthetic touch than anything though...

EDIT: and what size bolts are you using? #8 or #6 is what it looks like...
You MIGHT be able to find some nyloc nuts in that size...

why did you use flat screws instead of a sharp screw end? was it so you could use the bolt to hold it onto the wheels?

I thought about sharpening them, but really there isn't any point, they deliver 100 percent traction as is.

Also yes, I needed to have a nut on the other side, so I couldn't use a self tapping, or wood screw type. The nut along with a washer gives it strength.

I used m3 fine thread bolts, 12mm long.
