    Reputation on forums

    Hello community and staff team,

I am new into nitro rc cars and rc cars over all, but I have been web developer for 3 years now. So far I love this community and found something missing.

There are some really great people, and some not so great. Sometimes you do not know if you can trust someone or not (when buying/selling stuff).

This forum is running on vbulletin and vbulletin developers have made a plug-in named "User Reputation". Basically idea is simple, user can leave a comment and rate other users. Based on average rate of user, other users will be able to determine if it is good idea to have a deal with user or not.

If someone is interested please feel free to reply or PM me.

    Welcome to the hobby.

We have the Trader's Feedback section, and you can view people post number, so I don't really see Traxxas changing anything like what you're talking about in paticular. I may be missing something you're saying here, but I think the forum set-up is great.

Yep, kinda same idea as ebay star system.
Also it doesn't apply for trading only, but as well as for helping.

I would like to see that. The current way forces me to utilize the search option and we know how well used it gets around here.

If it's a free fourm, then it is either 1. paid by advertisements(yuck) or 3. paid my donations.(good) But if you donate, it's not really free.....

I do agree though, we really need avatars back. The fourm is just so bland without it.

Domain names cost about $30.00 per year and need to be renewed.
They are hosted on a dedicated server, that's $250.00 per month minimum.
Network administrator, hey they need to be paid to keep this thing running. Let's say $52,000 per yr.

Maybe not cheap for Traxxas but they are not in this for the fun of it, they are in this to make money.

I'm very happy they even provide a place for us Traxxas RCr's to come to.

As far as rating how trustworthy someone is, just take a look at how long they have been on this site. Most who are not trustworthy usually do not last and before they do they get a bad reputation from others.

And how many people on Ebay have multiple accounts so they can run their dishonest sales? I've seen Ebayr's get ripped off too.

The Marketplace also has an area for feedback, and you can also search on a members profile, check out any bad posts and feedback about them.

IMHO, Sure avatars are nice but have nothing to do with the honesty of the person on the other end of the internet.....

I agree with Nitro on everything.

I just believe there SHOULD be a whole rating system to keep the bad sellers from selling and letting the good sellers sell more. That way people don't have to say "Plenty of feedback in the feedback section." Plus, I know I would be proud to show off a good rating, so it gives people and incentive to be a great seller!

I like this idea. I also think, as part of our name is left VERY open, there could be a system to show what we've done for the Traxxas teams as users.
If one of us is extremely helpful to other users, a Forum admin would be able to put a little 'sticker' on there for being so helpful.
Kind of like a 'badge of honor' system, thus allowing others to know, who and where to go to for much needed advice.

I like that idea. Kharma points as well as a trader rating would be great.

it'd simply make people want to communicate and be part of the team building more.
I mean, it could go as far as the point where its like 'wow, this guys been amazing this month, lets really let people know what he's done for our community and our product'
I mean, its cost free, its a nice bonus, and it works amazingly!

if Traxxas felt like giving back to the people, who are deep into there product, they could always even give initiative offers, one person per month, who shows the hardest, and most initiative in the forums to sell, trade, or help his other Traxxas mates could win a custom Traxxas body, fit to there choice of model that he owns.

I mean, its easy to find out whos running what because usually you post it, thus, even if its not his favorite one, maybe it will be now, with an exciting new look no one else has.

To those wondering what the Reputation System is:
I will not say what forum this is, in case that is against the rules, but i took some screenshots to explain what it is.

So you see a post that was helpful to you, and solved your problem right?

You press the little button at the bottom of their post, to the left saying +REP.

You state the reason why you are giving reputation to the poster.

And now he has 1 more reputation point then before (above the +REP button)

If I saw someone with 200 reputation points, I would trust him if he was giving me advice on something, or I would trust him if i bought/sold something. If i saw a guy with 1000 posts but 5 reputation points, I would probably not buy/sell/take advice from him.

    Hope that explained it.

EDIT. Didn't realize you weren't just talking about selling/trading.

Slickdeals.net has a nice rating system.

Also, the REP system needs to be separate from the trade/sell feedback system. They have nothing to do with each other.

More RC's than most of the people here.

To me it would slow down the board to some of our members who still are on dial-up? Also the moderators would have to look at every rep post? Seems like alot of extra work for people that donate thier time now.I think it would open up the board to more problems.jmo of course.

Well it might slow down dial up users by maybe 5% but then you find out who is trustworthy and who is just trolling the forums with worthless posts.

Moderators would not need to monitor these reputation points. They show up on a persons profile, you don't post anything to a thread or anything, see my previous post on how it works.

It would actually easily solve a lot more problems than any(probably none) problems that may come of this. The feature is already built into the forum program, so it will not cost traxxas any more money.

Do you know how much the reputation points gets abused on other forums? I have seen it. Someone makes a bad mark then the other retaliates then the mods haft to deal with it.

That's not how the Reputation System works...
You can only give Reputation. Are you talking about a Trader rating system?

    Hope that helped.

I said reputation in my post so i dont know how else to explain it to you. Its reputation and how i seen it work on other forums people abused it. Maybe the system this guys talking about works in a different way. Hope this helped.

I'm on a game related forum that has the reputation thing on it. It is highly abused. It basically becomes a contest of who can make the funniest post and get the most reputation added. Yes, some people legitimately have high reputation on it for being helpful, but it's by no means an accurate representation of whether or not a user is helpful.

Granted the audience there is much younger and much more immature due to the more relaxed rules and such, so it does leave it up for abuse more and it becomes a bit of a popularity contest.

I think what would be interesting to see is Traxxas putting the reputation thing on here for a month and see whether or not it gets abused. Basically give it a trial run. If people abuse it and don't use it properly, they can simply remove it and people will continue on as usual.

I have to say the community here is very mature and might actually be capable of using it without abusing it.

I personally would like to be able to mark people up who I find are very helpful via the reputation system. It can help show off who gives trusted advice and help if used right.
