Can I still use NiMH batteries?

    HI

Can I still use my NiMH batteries on my summit now that I have installed a Novak 2S Lipo Cut off? Or is it only possible to use Lipos?

I use 7.4V Lipos, if I use my8.2V NiMH batteries, how will my smart-stop behave?

    Tank you!

You can still use it. It cuts off at what, 3.2V per lipo cell? So that means when your NiMh pack gets down to 6.4V it will cut out.

    thank you very much!

Today was my first day with the novak smart-stop and Lipos, I think that it was strange that after approxmarly 60 minutes the summit really died out and the front and rear lights died out, but the smart stop led ligth did not ligth up, and no alarm sound... is this normal?

Remeber LiPos are 4.20 per cell fully charged / 3.70 discharged and the 2S Smart stop IMO has too low a LVC for slow speed running of a Summit.

I consider a Yeah racing LVA to work just as good if not better. http://www.yeahracing.com/catalog/vo...14-p-2541.html

I prefer and use a Chargery BM6 LVA as it is fully adjustable for LVA voltage setting.

WOW 60 minutes of run time is great .... what size LiPOs? At that time you had to be just crawling around and not bashing. I'm thinking you are expecting way to long a run time or you have 9000 mAh packs.

LiPOs useage has to be properly terminated so that the per cell voltage comes back up to 3.7v per cell after resting. You risk damaging them if you run them too low.

You might want to read the LiPo Care section at the bottom of Hyperion's Data Sheet http://media.hyperion.hk/dn/g3lipo/ to learn a bit more of what I am talking about.

Just looked at the Smart Stop specs and here is the cut off for a 2S:

    Voltage Cut-Off Point: 6.25 volts (#5470 2-cell);

    http://www.teamnovak.com/products/li...ule/index.html

That basically is the extreme low end. You need to keep an eye on your truck and when you notice it beginning to slow down, then it's time to stop running and disconnect your battery.

You need to check your voltages, when you are finished running it wait twenty minutes or so for the packs to stabilize then check your cell voltages, if they are below 3.7 volts, then yes you cant trust the novak, if they are 3.7 volts you are doing good, if above 3.7 you might be able to push farther, but why? Unless you are testing the novaks operation. Sounds like you got a wicked run time going there. i have also seen threads where guys claim the leds work pretty decently for a low voltage alarm.

you have to test it. and give more accurate info. letting us know how you wired it might help as well

Some guys don't use anything, they simply time their runs

LVC work by detecting voltage under LOAD. If the load is light they may not come on soon enough. If the LOAD is very heavy they may come on too soon.

The Chargery BM6 and BS6 are both fully adjustable for LVA voltage point.

The Castle MMM with castle link is also fully adjustable for example.

The Novak Smart Stops are not adjustable as stated.

The Summit is very unique and under crawling conditions LOAD is very low. Under bashing conditions LOAD is probably fine for a Novak 2S Smart Stop.

My BM6 is set for 3.4V per cell when bashing around and I move it up to 3.6V when all I am doing is crawling around on the rock piles.

My BM6 is velcroed to the top of my Rx box and a short tap extension cable hooks it up to the BEC side LiPO balance tap.

I would not submerge it .... and I wrap my lipos with saran wrap and just time my runs when mudding. The new BS6 is very small and could be put in the Rx box. The BS6 uses a remote LED and a remote Buzzer cabled to the unit.

all of this sounds great! I Must admit that I dont understand too much of it but sure want to learn more, can you guys please help me to buy whatever I need (just need some links) and help me install it? Remote led and remote buzzer sounds great, I also like to fit what ever I need in the rx box, so that the truck still run in water.
    This is really heplful!
