Am radio vs 2.4ghz (FM?) Also a few other questions. Total noob

Okay, I am sure this was posted somewhere already. I did a search and could not find.

I just recently entered the world of hobby RC cars with my purchase a stock 2wd stampede (actually arrived today and battery is currently charging while I am at work).

It comes with the AM 27MHZ radio. I see on Ebay, I can upgrade to the 2.4GHZ for cheap....

Looks like it comes with the receiver too.

So, what are the benifits of the 2.4GHZ? Farther range? Better handling? Obviously 2.4GHZ is going to have far better bandwidth than 27Mhz. Are there any other benifits?

Also, Please give me your thoughts on upgrade path down the road.
The transmission is brushless ready on this thing. Here is what I am thinking in this order.

    1. Motor (Let me know what is better. I like the idea of keeping all of the components the same brand, but I come from the world of PC building/Modding and know that mixing brands to achieve the best build is just part of the game...)

    2. Lipo battery. (Have not even begun to look into models or anything like that....)

    3. Wheels

    4. Body

Is there anything I am missing? Looks like the ESC on this thing is good to go for what ever....
Should I change upgrade order? What should I upgrade first? Also, is there a better place to purchase? I just really like the website that I linked. Only thing is, it seems to be really crappy with giving detailed specs on the components.

Less (way less) interference. Less glitchy. Shorter antenna on both the receiver and the controller. More adjustment options. Also I believe more range and quicker response.

Everything else... you will get a better, more knowledgeable response in the proper section:

2- SPC. Great batteries, great prices, great service.

If the model is a brushed model and you want to run a brushless motor, you will need a brushless ESC.

As far as which hobby store to buy from... I have no loyalty. I purchase from wherever my total is going to be cheapest from... whether it be from eBay chop shops, Stormer Hobbies, Tower Hobbies, EPBuddy, Progressive RC, RCSuperstore, Hobby Partz, Toyz, Dollar Hobbyz, Tony's Screws, ect. Tower is the best at thorough descriptions, though.
Whatever it is I just said... I could be wrong.

Thanks for the info. Shortly after making this post, I found that the xl-5 esc is not usable with brushless. Thanks for the link for the battery.
