New slash 4x4 body and how to paint in 1 hour

I did another body for my slash the PE body is thin so i bought a proline hardcore body and painted it like Ken Blocks Subaru
Body taped off for white to go on

    White on

Painted it out side and then I held it up to my basement heater to dry so I could remove tape for next color Yellow
    Heater

My other trick is to put paint into a can of hot water for 5 mins till it's warm-paint can

    yellow on and dry

Removed tape for next color Black

    Black on and dry

next i removed some of the extra lexan

tools lexan scissors a must have tough and sharp

sorry had to remove some of the pictures

    all cut out

    Decals cut out

    finished product

took me 2 hours to tape off paint scheme 1 hour to paint all 3 colors and 1 1/2 hours to cut and apply decals

    What do ya Think ??

Paint looks great, and good tips all around. I painted mine outside as well, then stepped into the basement between coats and used the hair dryer to speed things along. Worked great.

Why do you wait until after painting to cut out the excess lexan? I've always done it beforehand out of fear that I will nick the new paint in the process. Even with curved lexan scissors, I find it difficult to cut in certain areas. At that point I usually break out the dremel with a sanding wheel.

    Looks good.

I have done that for the last 25 years that way, you have some thing to hold on to when painting, or maybe I'm just old school ? I also use a dremel tool with sanding wheel to smooth out the edges.

I use that trick on all rattle can paint ! Works great for model paint gives you a nice gloss finish. Work great in the automotive field when painting car parts with a rettle can. Give it a try some time

You can't notice that there is black cardboard around (words or bullet holes) blends in with the paint

1st I'd like to say great job with that body, look's sweet!

    Now I have some question's.

    1) Airbrush paint (and system) or will any rattle can paint work?
1a) Is there a final coat of paint like silver, black, ect needed?

    2) Is there any prep work that you need to do inside the body to help promote the ashesion for the paint? (I hate it when paint starts to chip/flake off)

    3) You always have to work in reverse like you showed for that specific look?

Please forgive my amaturish question's. I have never painted a lexan body, I usually bought all my bodies off ebay. I did alot of painting on my dodge dakota so I know how to paint I just don't know what I need to paint these little thing's.

    Thanks !!!

Air brush works good -fastcolor paint, with air brush paint like fast color there is a final coat or last coat for protection, rattle can paint only for lexan you should be able to get this paint at your local hobby shop

Yes you can scuff the inside with a scotchbrite pad but not needed I never have only where i put the xxx main picture glue on or where some over spray came through
Yea i work in revese to get the look, and I always start with light colors first and finish with black over the whole in side

I use automotive masking tape 3m only

No problem ! ask away Glad to help, some one had to teach me many years ago

LOL pretty basic then. I plan on getting a several bodies this summer so they might last me through next winter, kinda hard to paint when it's like 15* outside.

I bought them like ten years ago at my LHS, they are made by dynamite check Ebay or hobby shop or on line
if your edges are bad use a dremel tool or some 180-220 grit sand paper on a paint stick or a round dowel
