platiunum discountinued?

Monday I placed a back order for a normal platinum edition and monday it said late feb on tower hobbies. Now they have it as discontinued since the lame "ultimate" edition is out I guess. I'm waiting for a return call to see if they will be able to get one to me or if I have to cancel the order and go with a normal edition, which I dont really want.

No, but tower hobbies said sometimes under that status, they cant get them from traxxas anymore. I'm guessing the ultimate edition will replace it.

But the point of the PE was so you could use your own radio and battery.
The Ultimate is RTR. IMO the Radio and battery isn't worth the the extra $120 that Tower has it listed for, especially when you want ot use your own radio.
Yay another radio that can sit on the shelf collecting dust :P

I agree.... IMO its a bad move to discontinue the Plat. The battery and radio are absolutely useless to me. Anyone who races most likely uses a high end radio and LiPo's so whats the point in buying the Ultimate?? None IMO.

If I didn't have the PE, I would probably get the ultimate. Tower says 520 bucks, but traxxas says 500 suggested. Lets say it does go for 500 on tower. Those 60 dollars off codes have been floating around quite a bit. So 500 - 60 is 440. Now sell the radio on ebay on ebay for 75 bucks, 365. Now sell the battery and charger for 25, you are now down to 340 for basically a PE with a painted body. I have seen the radios go for more on ebay, you might be able to cut the price down further.

The PE is not on the site here anymore under products. I dunno about you guys, but $320 from tower for the PE (after discounts) was way easier to get OK'd by my wife than $500, no matter how much you get "back" on ebay.... If not for the PE, I likely would not have got a 4x4 Slash.

I ordered mine on the 15th of Jan, i bought a link radio off of ebay 2 weeks ago since i had a PE coming in from tower. I just checked my status and it used to say late feb, now it has changed to "on order".....anyone know what that means. It will me off if i bought the radio for nothing. I even joined the tower club for the 60 dollar discount. So far I have nothing but spite for tower.

Me and you are in the same exact boat, just that I ordered mine monday. They are going to call me and let me know if they will be able to get them in a day or 2. If they cant get one to me, then I'm going to build up a roller. From the looks of it, they wont be able to get them anymore on towerhobbies. I also joined the saver club to use the codes. lol

edit: how much did you pay for the link radio on ebay, in case I have one to sell in the near future.

Yeah, just noticed a bunch of posts missing, including one that I made that was totally unrelated to tantrum thrower. Kind of overkill if you ask me but sometimes to keep the forum running smoothly you need a mod with a heavy hand.

Mine says On order. The other day it said late Feb. I called and they acted like there was a good chance I wont be getting one, but my fingers are still crossed.

Thats all fine and well until the market gets saturated with them like it did with the TQ radios....

Thats what I'm afraid of. When traxxas 1st introduced the 2.4 TQ, I sold it from my Brushless Revo for an easy 100 bucks. Now they lose value daily. I lost my love for the TQ years and years ago.

I wonder how long it will take before the ultimates start hitting the shelves? I tried to order off tower and it says the part # is invalid. Looks like it's the ultimate for me.

What I posted is what I would do now, not 2 months down the road if I didn't have a PE. I understand, I think the platnium was in high demand and I don't understand why they discontinued it. While the link radio seems nice for a RTR, I have no use for it. I would prefer to build my truck and use my own radio.

Try using LXZEV3, thats what came up when I searched for it. They should drop the price once they recieve some instock !

The ultimate slash should come with all the accessories and not the radio and battery combo that most of us don't want. Are you listening traxxas?

That's not the Ultimate, That's the PE

Luckily for me at least, my LHS had ONE left, and he's holding it for me.

He was telling me that he heard from Traxxas and they will not be able to fill his Back orders for them.

According to the Traxxas website, The Ultimate is a Slash PE with a 2.4 Radio, Battery, Charger, and painted body instead of clear.

FYI, the PE is listed on Tower with Late Feb as the due date again. Also, PeterV from Traxxas posted on radiocontrolzone forums yesterday:

"The Slash 4X4 will be offered as the "standard" Ready-To-Race model (6808), the Platinum Edition (6804), and the Ultimate (6807). "

You guys are all SO negative... I sure wish there had been an "Ultimate when I bought my RTR...

First off. I never painted a body and didn't want to have to on my first $500 truck. (then have to explain it to my buddies)

Next. I didn't own a radio and the 2.4 is really nice compared to the old one I used with my revo.

then there is all the really cool aluminum hop up parts I STILL CAN'T GET, that I would have if I bought an Ultimate..

the "Ultimate" is EXACTLY what I wanted right from the beginning... I think it is a Brilliant move to make the "Ultimate".. Just 1 month too late for me...

Just buy the "Ultimate" and sell the Radio and battery to a guy with an older truck and Presto 1 you have a Platinum you don;t have to waste time and money trying to paint.

What accessories are you talking about? The Ultimate is just a PE with and Radio, Battery and Painted body.
