    Only 40mph 3s vxl stock!

Is that about right or should it be faster then that with the stock gears?
    Im using a 3s 5000 20c 30c burst.

It was wet out but I don't think that effected anything.

that would be quite right with stock gearing according to the manual. also, whatever you use to measure the speed could be a little off.

also when its wet, you are not getting lots of traction = lower speed.

Mine hits 40-42mph as well with the 13t pinion on 3s. I personally use 2s, seems like the 2s with 16t pinion is just about perfect on this truck. I used the 18t but the vxl gets pretty warm, even on 2s.
Break it, so you can upgrade it!

I normally run 2s I haven't gps it yet, but I have these 3s packs Im breaking in and the truck was a little bet faster. So I gps it to see how fast it was going and got 40mph.

try it again when its dry, you should get a better result.

also, normally from my experience, going 2s to 3s generally would give you like 10mph boost!

his lipo probably has higher discharge rate than yours, which explains the higher top speed and with the OPTIONAL pinion, which would give you 45mph+ according to the manual.

thunder power lipos are much more expensive.
