WARNING!! Running in snow will void your warranty! If you can't pay, don't play...
So, the only place I have to run this time of year is covered with snow. (i.e. everywhere) I plasti-dipped the esc and it workes great, no issues what so ever. I did run into a new one this past weekend, though.
Snow flies up under the body and melts on the motor and ESC. It runs down, fills the inside with slush and doesn't do much else... until you leave it sit in the cold for a little bit. Water had run down into the power switch and it froze. As many of you know, one of the hazardous properties of dihydrogen monoxide is that it tends to expand when it goes below 3.98 °C. My power switch basically shattered and the truck would shutdown after a few seconds.
I searched for any replacement parts and found none. The Castle Creations web site is strangely void of useful information beyond sales brochures. The Traxxas exploded view doesn't specify. Off to Radio Shack... and took a $2 chance on a possible close match. (for those interested, it was #275-0406)
Soldered it up and it works just like new. It is open on the bottom, so I won't have the same issue with water, but I may have an issue with dirt in the contacts. I have about 4 months before I can report on that...
The new switch is a perfect fit for the original mounting.
Waterproofing - apply several thin coats to ensure all the little bubbles get filled in.
