intermittent ESC issue
Long story short, I stripped a couple of gears in the Traxxas servo on my mini Revo, and instead of waiting for the internals to be ordered from Tower or my LHS, I decided to go with the KO Propo PDS-3101 servo.
The servo finally arrives, and after a little bit of elbow grease, I have it installed (BTW, I don't know how you can install it without either modifying the chassis a bit or taking the servo apart to move the wiring to facilitate installation). My problem is that now the ESC cuts out now and then. Not all the time, but once it starts, it'll cut out every few seconds. Once it cuts out, I cannot go forward or reverse; however the steering still works fine. If I wait a couple of seconds, the throttle will work. From what I can see, during this time, the light on the ESC goes out. Once it comes on again (red), the throttle will work.
I never had this problem with the OEM servo, so it makes me think the servo is causing some interference as I've read in other threads. However, it's not the Traxxas servo that's causing the problems, it's the KO servo.
I hope it's not the servo, as this thing wasn't cheap. I do have a Futaba 2.4GHz spread radio arriving tomorrow, so I guess I'll try it and see if the problem goes away.
I've inspected the motor wiring (fine), checked wire routing (same as stock), and other obvious issues, with no success. Set up is Traxxas radio and receiver, KO servo, stock ESC and motor, Orion and Traxxas NiMH batteries, stock antenna (not cut), but there are a bunch of aftermarket parts on the car (shock towers, shocks, push rods & tie rods, knuckles, etc).
Any other tips?
BTW, it's too easy to go crazy with this thing! I've already installed a bunch of STRC parts, Traxxas optional parts, and some from GPM. BTW, I'm going to swap the GPM knuckles for HR. I sure hope the HRs are built better, and from what I've read, they are.
