    Angry Hot Racing Customer Service

The only contact information I have been able to locate for Hot Racing is an email.

I have sent 3 emails about a problem I have with one of their products with no responses.

Anyone else share this similar problem? If this is their way of doing business I will not be

purchasing products made by them anymore.

    Thanks!

they aren't known for excellent customer service, it usually takes a couple of weeks for them to reply a brief and useless message. have you tried contacting the business that you bought the parts from?

I kinda got the impression that their CS is not very good. Usually when I am looking at a new product, I always check the "contact us" section of their website. If there is no phone number and only an email or address, I usually pass because that pretty much says that they don't want you to contact them for any reason.

I bought the HR aluminum idler gear for my new SC10 because that is a known weak point in the trans. I installed the aluminum idler as I was building the new kit. First time out with the new truck, it started to sound like a 4x4 SC. I checked the pinion/spur mesh and it was good. After a few more runs it was so loud that I had to pull the trans apart. There were metal shavings all over the inside of the trans and the gear looked like a directional saw blade. Exact same thing happened with by friend's truck, except his actually self-destructed to the point where the diff and idler were completely rounded with no signs of teeth anywhere.

Needless to say I was disappointed. But for the combined $16 we spent, I figured it's not worth the headache after seeing that there's only an email address for customer support. Hate to say it, but it reminds me of Integy CS.

They make fairly good products but their Customer Support is almost non existent. There are way to many company's like that in the RC industry and because they don't offer support they can offer parts at extremely low prices. Eventually this is going to hurt the industry as company's try to compete with the prices of the cheap non customer helping company's.

Aluminum gears from any manufacturer is always a bad idea. I can't speak for the quality of all there products, but I have only praise for the hardened steel 2 speed gear set I bought for my Jato. I guess I'm lucky I had no need to deal with customer service.

I'm not a fan of metal gears in general, but you would think that an aluminum gear would at least out-last a plastic gear. I've run the TRX aluminum idler in several vehicles and never had a single failure. With my SC10 I usually get at least a few months out of a stock idler. The HR gear was toast within 5 minutes of use.

Tell me about it...there CS is shocking. I bought a swaybar kit from them and the ball head screw had no hex cut into it. Post #183 photo 3 you can see what I am talking about.

Yup, had the same problem with them a couple of years ago when I had problems with the dig output for my crawler. I sent a couple of emails and got nothing in return. I was able to fix the problem with my dremmel, but just like Integy, I won't buy from them unless they have a part that no one else produces and that I cannot make myself; even at that I'll REALLY have to want it for me to buy it from them.

I've heard from a couple of sources that HPI is the owner of Hot Racing, maybe you could try going right to the top of the food chain and see if you have any luck there.

But I wouldn't count on much better service there,IMO HPI sucks all the way around[junk diffies, crappy low grade alloy chassis TVPs,pathetic weak plastic rims,etc...] About the only thing I'd run from either company is tires.

Marv, I think you might be confusing Hot Racing with Hot Bodies. I know for sure that Hot Bodies is a division of HPI, but have never heard the association with Hot Racing.

thanks for all the info guys, I think I'll just have to limit my purchases with them to only things that are absolutely necessary.
There aren't too many good after market companies out there sadly. Anyone have any GOOD experiences they recommend ?
