    Exclamation diffs

Okay I have a problem with my front diffs. If I hold my car off of the ground and give it some gas, my rear wheels turn fine, but my front wheels barley turn and seem really loose. After hitting the brakes the rear wheels come to an instant stop but the front wheels spin a little before running out of momentum. Basically there is something wrong. I would like some help I have NEVER taken apart the diff on my E-REvo. The last time I thought there was something wrong I couldn't figure out how to get to the diffs, I had the whole front of the car off. Again help would be nice.

First off, check your driveshafts. Center and wheels. But it does sound like your diff. It's really pretty easy to do, but if your having trouble, I would pull up the exploded views.

I agree check your center driveshafts and the axles that go to each wheel. If that's not it then you may have blown a diff. Your not running a center diff are you?

Well I had a wheel out of balance and it tore up the rod that holds the hex hub axle, and up by the diffs I had a c clip fall off and that caused the rod that holds the axle link to the diff link to fall out. I put that back together and the same result.I am pretty sure I am not running a center diff, what is it?

All my drive shafts and axles are in good condition, that was the first thing I checked.

If you don't know what a center diff is your probably not using one. Sounds like it's time to look at the front diff. It's pretty easy to take the bulkheads off it just looks intimidating

Did you pull on all of the driveshafts? It's possible the input or output broke or rounded out and if you don't pull on the shaft it will look normal.

If you spin one of your front wheels the other front wheel should spin in the opposite dirrection. If one spins and tge other doesn't it's in the diff or the axles. If they spin opposite grab one wheel and spin the other and the tranny and motor should turn over. If it doesn't the problem is in the center shaft or the tranny. Hope that makes sence

When you turn the front tire by hand does the other tire turn the opposite direction? If so it's not the diff....when a turning the tire it should feel smooth, no grinding....

make sure your hexes are still in the wheel. If your wheel nuts loosened a little the hex can eat up the spot it goes into in the wheel pretty easy and cause a symptom like you described.

Well when I grab a front tire and spin it the other tire spins opposite. However I am haveing trouble turning them both in the same directions because when my wheel was out of balance it broke off the rod that holds the hub on. I can't can't the broken rod out of the axle, so I can't get a good grip on the side of the car( on the front if that makes sense). But it doesn't not want to turn in the same direction. I will try some more in a minute.

Okay my center drive shafts are in good condition. This may help though. When I turn both of my rear wheels in the same direction the front wheels turn to just really slow. And I just ran while it tires were off the ground. My back tires are ballooning while my front tire barley turns and when I hit the brakes the front tire is slow to respond but does stop. IMPORTANT!! I have one front wheel off could it be doing the weird traction diff thing and not working probably because of that.

So you have a broken axle? If the black metal part that goes through the hex is broken then that's most likely your problem. You need to replace either that part or the entire axle/driveshaft.

Remove the set screw that holds the shaft on the diff and pull the shaft off of the diff. Then remove the hex. Now pull the shaft towards the truck and away from the wheel it should come out of the steering block/knuckle. If it's broken replace it

There was a thread about those a while back. I think they died pretty quick, sheared right off.

I had one tire on the front off while testing it so all the power that rear was okay, but all the power that went to the front went into the axle with the tire off. I had the tire off because the rod that holds the hex hub on had broken off inside of the metal axle stub thing( what do you call that. it is were you screw the nut on. I guess that is a hub too. Too many names for too many parts) . I finally knocked it out and put the replacement rod is and then put the wheel back on and it worked perfectly. Weird How one thing can affect that.

Your front diff was unloading to the wheel with the least resistance. That's how a diff works it sends power to the wheel that has less grip
