When I mounted my Badlands on some used rims I already had, I used zip ties around the perimeter of each side of the tire to ensure solid contact all the way around while the glue dried. Worked like a charm.

pics pics pics pics pics no glue just pics! I use thick glue. I mount the tire with the tire bead just inside of the rim bead. Run a bead of glue around the rim and then slide the tire bead into the glue in the rim.

Round I think you and I need help...

    Tire collectors annonymous!

I too want to see pics...sometime between now and NOW!

I have WAY too many sets of tires for EVERYTHING I own. At one point I had over 100 pairs of tires in rubbermaid tubs for my 12 some rc's. I have 2 sets of tires for my car, two for the truck and 3 full sets for my quad.

I got the Picture Thing to work..

Still waiting on the glue to dry then I will try it out and see how bad the motor heats up on 2S with stock 13/54 gearing.

Holy Moly - those are HUGE... and if you trim the body to fit you'll have to cut it back to a buggy body!

    Great looking wheel/tyre combo though.

Definately going to get a different body. Like bluefisherking said. I would have to trim it back to a Truggy body to get it to work.. Took it out without the body. Just had the Large Debris shield I built left on it. It made a great bucket. LOL (it did help with roll overs)

I ran 2 2S 5000 mAh ******* Lipos through it. I only got about 10 minutes on the batteries before they went into limp mode before LVC. Granted they have been sitting in the cold garage for 3 weeks, but still... This thing sucks back the Juice now. I get 20+ minutes on the same batteries with the Stock tires.

The Temp never got higher than 91°F on the Motor and 85°F on the ESC. It cooled to the 50° range between batteries. It was about 25-30° F outside. I was running a mix of Paved and Gravel driveway and a Snow covered lawn. About 2 1/2" of Fluffy snow and I had her PINNED... It will EAT UP the snow for a Joke.

Washed her off in the Kitchen sink ( Wife is at work and I'm on a Sick day ) and now its air drying on the shelf.

I did notice the Slipper Winding way more than before. Wheelies would have been easy if I tightened the slipper, but I kept is tame and only got the occasional stop wheelie and lots of rolling wheelies.

    I love it..

needapede-Thanks for my first good laugh of the day. I was reading your post from my cell phone at 5a.m. and got a kick out of it.

madkawi650-It just keeps getting better and better. Your wheels look awesome! Did you tape them? You will find that with a smaller pinion your temps will go down(will be necessary in the summer) and your runtime will increase. The larger wheels draw more amps which drains the battery faster. This can be compensated with a smaller pinion.
EX. I have the 2650 motor and with a 2s lipo and 22t pinion, runtimes were terrible!!!!! I then switched to a 3s and 14t pinion and runtimes increased drastically. You can drop a few teeth on the pinion and achieve the same runtime you had with the stock tires.

I just picked up an 11t pinion tonight and will try it tomorrow sometime.

I did tape the tires but I don't think it worked well... I used Gorrilla Tape. It is a stronger version of Duct Tape but it didn't appear to be sticking that well..
Anyway, when I rev it up off the ground I notice one of my tires ballooning more than the other 3. 2 of them look good, 1 ballons a bit and 1 balloons a lot.. I won't be running it that fast in this form anyway... its more for playing in the yard in the snow and such.

the truck handled very well with these tires. Way less traction rolling than I thought. It stuck,, but just seemed stable enough to stay planted and not flip.

    1 problem and 1 issue...

Problem.. I have to remove the drive shaft cover to tilt the motor enough to get a good mesh...

Issue... the Robsin Racing 11T pinion is about 1/3 narrower than the Traxxas Pinion.. Will this cause me to strip Spur Gears ?

I don't like it and will be looking for another 11T.

Is there any sort of mod I can do so I can still run with the Drive Shaft cover on ?

Just got in from running a 2S 5000 mAh ******* through it with the 11T pinion. Wheelies are a joke.

I got about 15 minutes on the the battery which is about a 40-50 % increase over the 13T pinion.

I might have the gear mesh a little tight. I was scarred of stripping due to the narrower pinion. I don't have any "wiggle wiggle" when rocking the pinion and Spur together with your fingers. I may have to loosen. I'm thinking thats why the temps were a bit higher than before with the 13T
Temps at the end were 98° motor and 50° on the ESC.... It was 14°F outside (Brrrr , hands are still warming up) I was doing lots of Stop and go wheelies and burnouts in the snow.

Regardless.. I am loving the 1/10 slash 4x4 MT

So I would say I like the Pinion

The Cover has a very small indent where the Motor cover touches, so it made a perfect template.. I used a hacksaw blade and cut 2 little slits in the cover edge motor side toward the center.. I then heated the plastic with a mini torch and bent the piece out of the way and inturn coterizing the cut edges. It not super pretty, but the motor completely sits just into the edge of the opening so nothing will get past. If I ever go to a Larger pinion I will cover the hole in the cover with a piece of electric tape... Its a month old just an old Beater now so who cares right.. LOL

I'm sure a new cover is only a couple bucks anyway.

    ok cool!

EDIT: but it seems weird that you have to do that when other people say that it works with an 11t with out doing that.

madkawi650-Thanks for the update. I would definately put some slack in the gear mesh. You will be fine with that pinion. RR is all I use. Get us some vids if you can. I will do the same as soon as it stops raining down here.

Would be cool to see a stock 4x4, running with your's with the big tires on some rough terrain, and see just how much difference there is just by switching tires and gearing to appropriate ratio. Wonder if your setup will be comparable to an Emaxx in rough stuff. Less ground clearance but maybe the lighter weight vehicle would overcome that.

    Challenge !

Vid of Stock Slash 4x4, vs. Stock Emaxx, vs. Monster Slash, geared and tuned about for the same speeds....

I don't think the MT Slash 4x4 will ever be an E-Maxx eater.. but it is like a 4x4 Stampede would be if it existed.

My 4x4 Slash MT is not as fast looking as the stock slash 4x4, but it is that "Monster Truck" kinda fun. and it dosn't get stuck in 2" of snow... It eats it up...

You can fit full-on 'Maxx sized MT tires on the truck, but gearing it won't be fun.

This is why I went with the Kershaw 9L (and HC 11L) motors. I figured I'd have some issues with the tall tires. The bigger but lower kv motors are a good fit for a monsterized Slash 4x4.

First of all let me say that I am sorry I don't have a personal camera man. Now let me tell you that my son and I just got back from the park after about an hour bash session and these trucks are soooooo much fun. My MT4x4 the way it is set up now with the 2650 and losi tires is just flat awesome. I gave my 2wd slash mt a make over as well with the HPI Mud Thrasher tires and it is phenomenol. I'll post a pic or two of the 2wd later.

    Round:

Are you still running 2S with your 2650, or are you able to run 3S because of the lack of heat issues ?

Can I run the 2650 with the stock ESC or should I go with the whole package ?

2s works if you gear up (22t pinion) to get the speed you want BUT when you do that the motor is an amp hawg and the result is very short runtime.
3s is awesome when geared down (14t pinion, slight driveshaft cover dremeling) Super fast, super powerful and sufficient runtime but I highly recommend cvd's. With 3s and 14t pinion you can hold your finger on anything for as long as you want after running the batteries down to LVC. It would be great if the overtray worked with the 2650 combo, because then we would have beatten the heat issues and dirt issues.
As far as running with the stock ESC. You can try it. If you do you need to check esc temps after the first 5 minuted and maybe each minute after that. ESC heat may be the issue. But it may be possible.

Thanks! Wanted to go the MT route but with a little differant take on it. AKA... The Monster Beetle
I'm going to have to fab some body mounts to keep the body high enough so the tires wont rub when jumping etc...
But for the most part they clear perfectly! But it'll end up sitting pretty much the way it is right now.

Allright here are some vitals on my 4x4MT.
I tried to time runtime but the fact is that after 34minutes of running strong the truck still has runtime left and I needed a break. Top speed with 2650 motor, geared 14/54 and Losi high roller tires(taped and fishing line installed) is 41MPH. This is plenty fast enough for bashing and wheeling as far as the eye can see. Oh and check this out...........It is 64 degrees outside and after 34 min. of bashing the motor was 88 deg., esc 92, deg, and lipo was 85 deg. Who could ask for anything more? The perfect truck, now I need to hire a camera man.
Tire weights......I don't have a digital scale but a plain kitchen scale and this is what I got.

Have you had any problems with axles/drivetrain using those Mudthrashers on the 2WD? I have a set of them on wide offset 2.2 wheels lying around - I originally bought them for a completely different truck but found they kept breaking the truck's CVDs as they were too heavy for that setup (and the truck's gearing didn't help). But if they work well on the 2WD Slash I might give them another go...

^^^^^^^Yes I swapped to the mutal output yokes and I put heatshrink on all of the joints to keep the balls from popping out of the ears. I will evevtually go to cvd's.

Ah - glad I asked that question :-)
(and sorry about your stub axle!)
I guess I'll hold off on the Mud Thrashers and stick with a more modest sized MT tyre, at least till I have CVDs all round.

(..though as I said, those Mud Thrashers were even breaking CVDs on the other truck, though they were not very tough ones to be fair...)

    Thanks for the info.

round i am running the mmm & 2650 with a 22t pinion and stock spur with 1/8th buggy tires , i tried it today with the 1/8th's on and a 2s 5000mah lipo and it ran for 20mins and then i just shut it off bc i had to go back to work , this is a brand new battery also. I prob could have got soem more time out of the pack aswell , i dont know why your run times were so low with this setup. By the way do you know the top speed with this setup on 3 & 4s , it would be greatly appreciated - Thanks
