I know it can take a 7 cell stick or a 7 cell hump, what about an 8-cell hump?

ya, i'm pretty sure an 8 cell hump will fit. the slash 4x4 accepts a ton of different batteries. and by the looks of that one, it will fit lengthwise and the one cell on top will go through the top of the hold down.
+1 on that ^^
Looks like it'll fit.. if not there IS a battery expansion kit for it...

That battery above will fit without the expansion kit. The kit just raises the height, so you can put in tall packs like lipos. Pictured below is 7cell as you can see the 8th cell can fit at the front where that foam spacer is with no problem.Originally Posted by AK-Maxx

OK, how do you think this battery will perform compared to a 2S Lipo in terms of power and runtime? The NiHM is a 8-cell 9.6v 5000mah.

Any Lipo battery is going to probably perform better than that battery, just because of the new technology. It holds its charge much better and will last longer than any nimh battery with the same mah. I would say go lipo, you won't be disappointed. I have a 9 cell 10.8volt nimh and it doesn't even perform to my 2s lipo, much less my 3s! lol.
Yes the 8 cell hump fits. It is a tight fit but it fits.

If someone would not mind, what are the dimensions of the battery tray?
