    taping 40 series tires

had a few questions about taping 40 series tires. I have another set of 40 series road rage tires on the way. My last set, along with my masher 3.2 tires, always seems like one or two tires bounce slightly while driving steadily at mid throttle (maybe 20mph). Full speed they seem to run pretty good. When i taped both sets i ran two strips of tape offset from the center of the tread so the tape is actually right to the edge of the tread, which of course results in a bunch of wrinkles in the tape. Can't figure out why they always bounce slightly, even after balancing them 3 or 4 times and it has no effect. Could it possibly be from my tape job? Should i just be running one strip right down the center of the tread. My phaltline's i just mounted up seem to run great and i only ran one strip on the tire, but of course the tire is much narrower, so it actually covered the whole underside of the tread

I only ran one strip with my 40 series mashers and they seem fine.

might try that when i get my new set. I always thought it would be best to completely cover the underside of the tread with tape. One strip down the center on most 40 series tires will leave about .5"-.75" of tread exposed on the outer edges. I guess it probably shouldn't matter though

I know duck tape makes some that is wider than the regular size. Check it out at Wal-Mart or somewhere that has a selection of tape.

i bought the widest they make for gorilla tape, which is the same width as normal duct tape. Maybe i'll check that out and see if i can find some tape that is a little bit wider

yea I use gorilla tape also. I'm not geared for top speed either though, maybe 40-45mph.

I have never tapd anything before, but what do you do? Do you just run a strip of tape around the tire? For offrad tires doesn't that affect your traction? I am pretty sure that talon's are out of balance. I ran my car down the street for the first time the other day, and all four of my tires were barley touching the pavement at about 35 mph.

This is the best I could possibly do, and these are big flat 40 series. You know what... it works like a charm, wrinkles and all. NO BALLOONING! So go ahead and don't get wrinked over a few wrinkles. lol

Hear is the back story on why I wanted 40 series mashers, incase you are wondering...

Looks good doesn't it? Heres my build thread
You tape the inside. I use straping tape. Its fibered like duct tape but lighter.
