NEW radio

well I want to get a new/better radio for a summit. Something 2.4 Ghz and 4 channel that would work well the lockers and high/low. I dont however want a TQ system. I've had bad luck with them in the past. can anyone give input of radio systems? something that can get the job done and isnt $500.

I am not sure what was wrong with your past TQs but mine have been great...kids have dropped them....they have gotten SUBMERGED....no probs here..

What probs were you having?

I just installed my 2.4G Traxxas radio in my Summit.. works like a charm!!!

I run a Spektrum DX3S in my MERV, pretty great radio, around $250 w/ telemetry

the dx3 is only 3 channel.

RCmart has the 4pk at 399.00. I know it's expensive but it's just a suggestion as a 4channel radio. If you could switch the stock tq and get 2.4ghz that would be your cheapest and best option.

Just me wondering, maybe three channels are sufficient.
When I need diff lock I usually switch both axles.
So this requires Y harness so Low gear means all diffs locked..
This way the truck wont be driven at high speed AND diff. locks engaged.
(I have done this acouple of times)

i did buy a Traxxas TQ4 but have since found as i am changing my Revo to a single hi torque servo the TQ4 does not have any sero end stop adjustment
so could damage an expensive digital servo.
I want the radio to be future proof incase i convert the Summit to a single high torque servo
Although if you plan on staying with the Traxxas servo,s the TQ4 is the best low cost option.

Jimmy_R I was thinking of the same thing. the only time I would be in low is to crawl and would want the diffs locked anyway. it would same a lot of money as well. but i wasnt sure if hooking them together on 1 channel would hurt the trucks performance. do people use low gear a lot without the diffs locked. like is it a big deal to tie to two together?

Ok here' how I drive. When in low gear I usually try first without locks, but when I need it I switch both. Sometimes I go locked if it's a deep ditch or something ie going low at the same time.
I am looking forward to some sliding on ice/snow with the rear locked and high gear but thats the only downside I can think of.

Edit: Punch line = I end up locked very soon in low gear.

well. for $100 bucks I will try the TQ4 2.4Ghz. I've had like 6 traxxas trucks and 3 of the radios died. 1 didnt work out of box. maybe it was bad luck.

My original TQ-4 worked just as well too until I went to brushless (which interfered some with the 27MHz signal and is why I switched).
