Someone messed up on their copy/paste job. The G3 VX 3S 5500's are 30.7mm thick, the 5000's are 29.4mm thick. Download the datasheet on the page you linked to, it will tell you all about the various G3 packs. The 5000's should fit fine, as long as you remove the battery springs. The 5500's might fit, but it would be very tight.
thank you. alright, good call they have the wrong specs, the 5000's are 163.5x44.4x29.4
and the 5500's are 158.5x46.8x30.7
except the battery slots are 160x51x30, so both might not fit, anyone try either of these?

I have a pair of the 2S 6500's, and they fit fine. The extra 3.5mm of the 3S 5000's shouldn't be a problem, seeing as there's 10mm of foam at the end of the compartment, plus you could get a couple more millimeters at the other end if you took the retaining tab out. It'll be tight, for sure, but should be doable.
i think your right, at first i was thinking that when you get past 160mm length it bevels down to 20mm height over 10mm, but then i looked at pics of the packs, and they have a big round radius at the end, so they should clear the bevel just fine.
problem is i like to coat my lipos to water proof them, and the 3s packs don't leave much room for that.
heck the 3s5500's weigh a quarter pound more than the 2s 6500's, thats a half pound of weight difference.
I know you get more runtime per 3s mah then 2s mah, because you pull more amps from 2s than 3s to provide the same power, but is it more efficient that 1000mah or 1500mah in this case plus the half pound? I have no idea. So in theory you could get more runtime out of a lesser mah 3s setup than a higher mah 2s setup, assuming you had the motor kv's and gearing adjusted to they provided the same acceleration and speed. The nice thing about those 2s packs is they are lighter, smaller (can be waterproofed), and can supply enough amps anyway. I love the idea of running 3s packs though and getting more efficiency, but they are just to big.
