    Modded 3.3 or O.S. 21TM?

I'm set on hot rodding my Jato. I've read the various threads on modded 3.3's and the OS 21 TM. My general question is, which is the better way to go for a show-off hot rod? Not racing or worried about fuel economy. Just want to take it to the max on nitro before the inevitable conversion to brushless.

Go modded 3.3. The modded 3.3 will be more of a showoff then the stock .21TM.

Why not a heavy modded .18TZ, or a modded .12 picco-reddot, both will give you higher top speed, and the cost of retrofitting and modding a 18TZ is less than a 21 iirc.

I'm open to other suggestions. Maybe the question should be more general. What is ultimate hot-rod motor for a ridiculously fast Jato, that will fit in a stock Jato chassis? Some retrofitting/mods to make it fit are OK. Forget about the tranny gear limitations, they are cheap. My perspective is this. To live to retirement age, most things in life have to be done in moderation. My Jato build is not one of those things. I want to giggle when I come home from work and see it sitting on the workbench.

You could got O.S. .18TZ. It requires a few small mods to fit but is closer in the power range of the .21TM and a half the price. Go with the TZ and get it modded and youll have a crazy fast Jato if geared right.

I just broke in my AB mods .21TM I haven't clocked my speed yet, but all I can say is WOW!! This engine just keeps climbing on the rpm scale seem like I need a quarter mile to reach the top speed.

Well, what's your price range? An OS 12XZ(P) @44,000RPM or a Novarossi Flash 2.1 @46,300 RPM would work for a hot-rod jato

Price range is more a function of patience than anything. Say $600 between now and the end of the year.

I was the first to do both the Picco JLR .12 Red Dot and the stock and modded O.S. 21TM builds. The builds were very successful and I started threads for both that went on and on. The .18TZ and modded 3.3 builds have also been done many times as well on this forum going back several years.

To accomplish what you are talking about and to get the satisfaction and since of accomplishment you are looking for, you need to do a build that has never been done before.

Trust me, if you come up with your own build, no matter how it turns out, it will be a proud moment. You can document each step here on the forum.....and we will come....

Hhmmm. A challenge. If Ferrari built a Jato, what motor would they use?

See....now you're thinking. HINT:The right direction would be a modifed .12 or .15 w/centax-adjustable type clutch setup. I have seen it done on a Jato, but never on this forum....only at the dragstrip.

All I can say was the setup was....

You have good taste. Both the Flash 2.1 and OS12XZ look like spectacular choices. I'm leaning toward a high-winding small block, which the 12XZ fits. However the cost would test my patience in terms of accumulating funds for the other thing I want to do, which is a weight loss program.

I'm leaning in the direction of the Novarossi 2.5. At 44k rpms max with a centax clutch it should provide the opportunity for both brutal launches and screaming top end.

    Guidance System

I'm also thinking any modern supercar/guided missle should have some kind of electronic guidance system. Especially when the driver has 40 yr old reflexes.

Adam says he can get more power out of the Novarossi. May just have to let him try.

Your first real project should be to bulletproof the transmission, anything stronger than the stock 3.3 will destruct your transmission.

id go with a ABmods drag modified .18TZ.

Maybe embrace the weakness and design a smoke canister under the body to go off when the tranny goes.

Well I scored a good deal on a new Thunder Power 3s 40c so I couldn't resist the brushless conversion (see my other thread today). It will give nitro a good run. Then I found a 1/2 price Vantage chassis on RC Groups I could't resist, so a new build will be on the way.
