Thats awsome. what did you do cut the shaft and use a pice of another one to act as a sliding sleve? how is the engagment well its out crawling? how did you get down through the frame and where?
Great job. Never even thought of that method.
The next step is to make the rear center shaft lock against the chassis when it's disengaged from the transmission. That would act like rear brakes to provide a complete front dig system.
Thanks. A saw. I used a female an two male driveshafts. It is smooth if lubed but other wise it needs some help from the driveline moving. I drilled like 5 holes in a line the used a dremal to make it one big one.Originally Posted by revoratt

Now that would be cool. I'll see what I can come up with.Originally Posted by chet jamio

Ch1. Steering
ch2. Throttle
ch 3. High/low tranny
ch 4a. Front and rear diffs locked
ch 4b diffs still locked. Front dig engaged

What is a front dig system?
it disconects the rear drive shaft so it only has front wheel drive so you can clime steep hills with out rolling over
if your not breaking anything get more air
I tried climbing the system works fine but the stock tires arnt grabbing. Any tire recommendations?

Clever. I was thinking of a different way, but yours is better.Originally Posted by Alex's Revo 3.3
About the rear brake lock, maybe you could add a rear brake from a nitro Revo and connect it to the front dig servo. I've never seen a nitro, so I don't know if this would work.
I had about the same issue (without the front dig of course) and ended up putting a fair bit of extra weight on the front bumper. It helped with keeping the front tires on the ground.Originally Posted by Alex's Revo 3.3
50 characters and no BB code for sigs is useless!
How muh weight did you add.Originally Posted by Dingman

I was just thinking that if I lock the rear to the chassis when I engage dig it will be useless because I have the rear steer.

Do you have any videos of the front dig on the summit being useful? A video that shows the no front dig vs the front dig.
Yes its me - the necromancer - I simply love pulling up old (exciting) projects from the dead just to spark some new original interests and check on updates -
any updates, comments? similiar ideas?

Dig would be a good mod to have in the summit. I wonder if you could pull it off with the use of one of the locking diffs inline with the rear driveshaft i.e. digDiff. With the digDiff locked you're in 4x4 with the digDiff unlocked you'd have dig. The key would be to figure out how to lock the driveshaft to the rear diff when you unlocked the digDiff. Maybe you could turn the coupling around inside the locking diff to lock against the diff housing when unlocked:

VERY impressive, i'd give you ten solid gold stars but i'll save em for when you make it possible to switch between fwd/rwd/awd![]()
Nice job
i dont get why would do this for...seems like a lot of hard work
i would have thought it would have been easer to change the diff lock so that when u turn the diff lock on the front locks up first then the rear then make it so they all lock up
just bumping a great thread

Brushless Summit!!!!!
Slash 4x4
A company could make an inexpensive kit for front dig and they would sell........ Hint. Hint.
Great job! My summit really needs dig...

Not sure if the op is still active on here but if so I would love to see a vid of this system in action crawling....? You out there Alex's Revo 3.3?

crawl-bash-swim. The Summit does it all.
nice JOb Alex , you dah Man !!!!
Just necromancing some good old Summit build threads to inspire these summit newbies with better ideas than simply bigger tires.

I actually took the time and did this mod on mine. Sadly it didnt help like it does on the superclass crawlers. The truck is too heavy and when you go into front dig on a verticle climb it cant pull it up. Kick in the rear axle again and it just flips over like normal.. The only thing that was cool about it was doing front dig turns. Flooring it in front wheel drive it would spin around nicely in a tight spot. Needless to say, I removed the mod from my truck, too many moving parts to not use. Just my experience with it.![]()
