Why are people saying this....

I see a lot of people saying 4x2 instead of 2x4 why is this?

I am not saying anybody is dumb or whatever but its 2x4 for 2wd and obviously 4x4 is 4wd. SO, just to let you guys know its 2x4 or 2wd.

Also I would like to know what people are going to do to their truck when they get it (like hop ups). My first change would be sway bars, CVD's, and 1/8th scale buggy shocks.

Try this:

4 wheels by 4 driven = 4x4
4 wheels by 2 driven = 4x2

LOL, this is exactly what i was going to say! I have always said 2wd, but I would also say 4x2.

I dont see why 4x2 and 2x4 is any different, but reading many automotive related articles, people usually also refer 4x2 for a 2wd vehicle or 2x4

The 'X' mean 'by' if i'm not mistaken, so four by four and so on

4x4 (reads 4 wheels present on a car driven 'by' 4 wheels)
4x2 (reads 4 wheels present on a car driven 'by' 2 wheels, usually refers to rear driven vehicle)

But that's just my .02,

An exception...... Maybe you could call a front wheel drive vehicle, a 2x4.

What pickup trucks are you looking at? I have never seen a 2x4 on the side of a truck unless it is a piece of lumber hanging from it.
4x2 is the correct terminology for a 2wd vehicle.

I have never even once in my life seen "2x4" printed on a truck, I have however seen "4x2" on quite a few, mostly Fords. Go look again. Once again "4x2" is correct.

Ford also puts Fx4 on some, meaning Ford x 4.
