Cool Double Orange Springs on Rear Shocks

I bought a spare set of stock shocks last week on E-Bay. Today I put the spare front double orange on the rear .... so I was running double orange with no preload front and back. WAY Better!! The squat is almost gone. Handling seems much better for bashing around. It just looks better running!!

As soon as I can get some 65 weight silicone oil I am going to play with the VDP kit some...and maybe try the blue and purple springs I have on hand.
I make tap adapters and power harnesses.

Right now everything is stock. (Not sure what the stock oil weight is!) I'm going to try 65 weight, 2 hole VDP, and Blue Springs next (per E-Revo guys).

The great thing about having two sets of shocks is the ability to play around with settings. Swapping shocks out is so easy!

the spring rate on the double orange stripe is 5.4 (back end still sags)
    The blue stripe is 5.9

why not just go up to the Purple (6.4)?

Thanks .... I do have a set of Blues and a set of Purples to play with. These will require preload as they are shorter springs .... so suspension travel will be less. Correct?

So your using two full size stock springs on the shocks? I was thinking about doing that a while ago but I didnt think that two full size springs would fit on the single shock body. I was going to try to cut one in half and see if it works.
Do you have any pictures of this mod?

    Not necessarily...

Check that the springs aren't getting coil-bound on full compression. If not, you'll have full travel. If they ARE, then you'll lose a bit on the compression side.

FWIW, the purple springs have one less winding than the blues, so you'll be less likely to bind the coils on them using the same amount of preload.

NAHHHH Double Orange painted stripes ....Not double springs.

The double orange and double yellow springs are longer in length for the LT rockers....so you get more travel.

i did the same thing, I have a spare set. I wanted to put the double oranges on the back... Have you tested the crawling ability with stiffer shocks in the back??

    thanks

I noticed the rear squat while acclerating and high speed running too. I know stiffer springs would fix this and probably improve the truck's bashing/jumping ability, but wouldnt it hamper crawling? Would heavier weight shock oil help with the rear squat issue? I wouldnt see shock oil having as much of an affect as stiffer springs on crawling ability. I would like to minimize rear squat, but i still want to use the truck for crawling! Is there a good setup for this?

Suspension setup is all a trade off, set it up for what you do the most. I noticed the stiffer rear springs reduced articulation slightly but I like it better than stock for what I do...
