    charging lipo's at 2c

I have a set of 2s reedy 35c 5000mah lipo's for the revo. The directions with the pack say to never charge over 2c. Since the manufacturer's directions say it can be charged up to 2c would it be safe to do it. I'm so used to always charging at 1c that i'm kind of nervous to try charging these packs any higher. I'm guessing it would just charge a lot faster at 2c right?

1C = the Ah of your pack, so you have a 5Ah pack, and 1C is 5A. 2C would be twice that, so 10A.

If the pack says never charge at more than 2C, that means it can be charged at 2C, it's just up to you if you want to or not. If you are asking is it safe, yes, it is safe.

Yes, it will charge faster. If you're nervous as you say, you can pick an amp rate in between 5a and 10a to convince yourself it is safe as Revo1 mentions.

hmmm, I've never seen it spelled that way.

Yes, you can do it, a lot of the new lipo packs coming out are allowing a charge rate of 2c, but a lot of the chargers are not keeping up with the battery technology, there are only a couple of chargers out there that will charge at 10c and that's only good for a 5000mah battery at 2c, if you have a 6500mah like me or some 8000mah or 9000mah I don't know of any chargers out there that will charge lipo's at 16amps or 18amps. Maybe the chargers will catch up in the next year or so, meanwhile you can do like was suggested and charger at 1.5c which I could do on 6500mah @ 9.75 amps.

the charger i have is the icharger 208B which will charge up to 20A, I think this is the only charger out right now that will charge this high. Was thinkin about wiring it up to charge 2 packs at once, but I think i will just leave it. I have 2 sets of 2s lipo's and it takes about an hour to charge one pack. I just keep them charged up so they're always ready and don't have any downtime. Would charging at 2c risk shortening the life of the pack at all?

Not correct. The New Hyperion Charges also Charge at 15 - 20 A.
I have made an harness and I charge my Hyperion batteries at 2C (about 40 minutes to fully Charge two packs of 5500Mah batteries).
The only Drawback of Charging Higher that 2C (assuming the battery can take that current without exploding) is that you are shortening the battery's Life-Span. If you are not in a hurry - it is better to charge a low currents (1C).

That's good, now people know there are 2 chargers out there that charge at a high rate. I will say this, I have been charging batteries since 1979 (when I was in the battery business) and even though the were lead acid batteries, the slower the rate of charge, the better for the battery and the longer it will last.

The iCharger 208B ($198, but can be had for $170) has a max charge-rate of 20A, the Hyperion DUOs ($299) have a max charge-rate of 15A, and the Bantam BC8DX ($360) has a max charge rate of only 9A (the iCharger 106B and 1010B can charge at 10A and are ony $119.95 and $190 respectively).

It is my opinion that the iCharger 208B is the best charger you can buy, and it is much less expensive than the other chargers whose specs aren't even as good as it. And, the biggest thing, the iCharger 208B can do everything the more expensive charger can and more.

Revo1 - You have forgotten a very important Charger:
the Hyperion EOS0720iNET 3. It charges up to 7S lipos, up to 20A (its a 250 Watts Charger!) and it costs less that 197$, before discount. It also can be firmware upgraded (Via PC). I think this one gives "the most bang for the buck".

Uha and I have also forgotten the Hyperion HP-EOS-0720iNET Charger / Balancer. This one has almost the same capabilities (7S, 20A, 250Watts) and it costs only 177$. It takes them all with it's left hand tied behind the back ! (its a translated sentence...)

There ya go, another 20A charger. The only negatives I see are it has a 7S and 250w limit.

Don't forget this Hyperion is 20 amp, and 199, only spec that's not comparable to the 208b is that it only does 7s. http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...S720IV3&cat=19
I have no idea which is better, and don't think anyone would do wrong with either. I would go Hyperion, just because I have always been more then happy with the one I have. As it seems most are with the 208B
Dang I'm slow, started typing, then pulled up the link, then posted, meanwhile already posted and responded to

I'm sorry, in my original link the specs said 360 watts. Now that I have looked closer the 250 is correct. So the 208b would have the advantage at higher voltage large packs.

I still like my 2-bantam bc8dx's, they do the job I need, my batteries are charged fast and balanced perfectly and it's very user friendly. It's one of the best purchases I have made. I never said it was the best or charged the highest amps, I just said it was a very nice charger and I didn't have to order it from hong kong, even though it was probably made over there along with the hp computer I am typing on. If I had it to do over again, I would buy the same things. It's kinda like tv's, there are 50 different brands, but some are made better then others, I have all sony's in my house, yes they cost more, but I like the quality, the same applies with battery chargers, some are made better then others.

I was a bit concerned about 2c charging, but my packs (MaxAmps) and Hyperion charger all state they can do it. I called MaxAmps support and interrogated them a bit about this. 2c (vs. 1c) charging on packs capable does not void their 3 year warranty. I pump 13amps into my packs which allows me to charge two cells in about 30 minutes; I get about 45 minutes of run time off the same packs. 2c charging allows me to run forever (or until I break something, which I seem to be quite skilled at).

ANY time you charge at higher than 1C you should balance at the same time! I've gone 4C (20 amps) with Hyperions G3s with no problems.
I make tap adapters and power harnesses.

I run maxamp packs also, charging at 2c is great because you can charge them faster when you need them, but in the long run, the slower you charge a battery the better it is and the longer it will last. So at the end of the day I would charge them at 1c and charge at 2c during the day when you need them.

Never once said that, ASSUMPTION is the mother of all screw ups, don't assume things on your own, you are looking for something that is not there. Also this is a free world we live in and everyone is entitled to there opinion, remember that.
