    traxxas batts are bad!!

well i have had my traxxas 7cell power cell series 3 for about 8 months but has only bean used for 4-3 months and has worked good.

but now when i plug it in to my charger with the charger not plugged in to the wall (it is suppose to work when not plugged in to the wall just to see what volts it is at) it comes up with no reading at all and when i try my venom batt it comes up with the volts and works perfectly so it is not the charger.

but when my charger is plugged in to the wall and i plug the traxxas power cell in it says 3.85 volts. i don't want to try it in my slash cuz i don't want it to blow up.

and i have called traxxas and all thy say is it is 8 months old we can't help you. so i am not impressed with their customer service.

here is the charger i have http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXRST9&P=ML

so here is my Q what is the problem?

Its 8 months old, I have no expectation that they should do anything about it.

Its not a lipo so no risk of fire, so plug it in and try it. If it won't take a charge over 3.8v, you probably have a dead cell or 2 in the pack. Time for some new batteries I think.

Meh... there are better chargers out there then that. How do you take care of your packs? Btw, Traxxas shouldn't be held responsible b/c it's a old pack.

Uhhh....Bashing traxxas customer service and products on traxxas's forum might end up in warning points... Just food for thought. As for the battery They can last longer than 8 mo but you have to take care of them properly. Also you may still be able to get some more use of your battery. Maybe try to do a slow 2 amp charge on it then SLOWLY discharge it at 1amp. Cycle it about 3 times like that and see what you got. Also what is you mv per cell set at on your charger? It should be on 5 with your charger. I cycle my batteries 2 to 3 times a month and always seem to get peak performance out of them.

What are you talking about? Traxxas batteries are AWESOME! They're so awesome that they don't even advertise the mah ratings on them - you just KNOW they're awesome! They're so awesome that they cost more than other well known, high quality NiMH batteries - just because they're Traxxas and they're awesome! They're so awesome that, even after 8 months of using them and if they so happen to die, Traxxas won't do anything to help, because they're just that awesome!

nice... Like the other guy said try cycling them. if your charger doesn't discharge hook up your battery to your car andgive it 1/8 throttle or less until it is almost dead. Put it on a stand and turn the throttle trim up until the wheels just move. Then wait...........

Nimh should easily last years if taken care of. I have 7year old Gp3300 with still work. You never stated how you take care of them. If they are soo terrible, go with the Venoms. I heard they are amazing in power.

I guess those days of quality are gone. In the world of use, discard and replace, the average lifespan of any product (except Traxxas trucks obviously ) has reduced.

Or you could go with a company that has a good reputation for batteries. When I got into this hobby about 9 months ago I did a lot of reading on this site and others. One company I heard a lot about is www.promatchracing.com.

I ordered 2 7cell packs from there and they have been great. I did have a problem with one of them a couple months ago and they took care of it no problem. All I had to do was pay shipping to send it to them.

That is my story about batteries take it for what it is worth. I buy by batteries from people that know batteries not traxxas or venom.

    Good luck!

Your traxxas pack might go into reverse polarity. It can happen when one of the cell is SO weak, that other 'stronger' cells reverse charge it. I had a small 4 cell pack for Losi micro RC which had been sitting for months, I thought it was dead. Some guy gave me a remedy, to link the + and - wire to dry cell batt for a few secs. This will force charge the pack and ...hopefully restore the polarity. It worked for me...on a small pack. I can't guarantee it though.
Myth busted: Blitz is not faster on the track.

i would asume that one of your battery cells has gone on you, either chemicaly, or the connection between the batteries has cracked or such so when you charge, your not actualy charging all 7 cells, your only charging 1 or 2.

This happened with one of my venoms, the thing wouldnt hold a charge and took only minutes on the charger before it was "done".. after i went lipo, i opened up the battery and sure enough the second cell of the pack was leaking and it looks like the top of the battery cracked off..
