    Should i get one??

I curently have a T-maxx but i feel like nitro RC is so much work....between tuning and figuring out problems, i barely get time to play..... I love the look of the slash and slayer and originally was thinking about getting a slayer but i'm wondering if electric is a better way to go, it certanly is cheaper.

I was wondering what kind of experience you all have had with the slash, and if i should get rid of the t-maxx and pick up a slash?

IMO you need brushless power to unlock the Slash full potential. It is a very durable truck.
No matter where you go there you are.

I Have lots of RC's nitro and electric. But if I could have only 1 it would be a VXL Slash. Lots of fun, reliable, durable and all the speed you need and more

I may sound dumb asking this, but i keep hearing this word brushless and idk what it means lol..... is this some kind of an upgrade that you buy for the slash?

And what is a VXL slash?? Upgraded version?

If you get a Slash, make sure you put a brushless and Lipo's in it. I dont care what brushless system, just get a 3s lipo and you will be extremely happy. BEWARE though, you will go through tires like nothing.

Same when i first bought one. it is an upgradded motor that basically has no brushes. the stock titan 12t has brushes. you can do research if you want to really find out... or quick way, buy one

Brushless just mean theres no brushes in the motor contacting the amuture? (i belive its called) the peice with copper that spins inside the magnetic motor casing. On a brushless all that copper is on the outside and the rotar in the middle is now the magnet. thus there is no contact making it alot, ALOOTT more effecient and faster!

And the VXL is a brushless system, from traxxas that you can bolt right up to the slash.

I hope i explained that half decently..

    Heres the VXL:

    http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXXWM5&P=ML

Heres the Castle Creations Mamba Max system (with this setup and running 3s lipos, you will need to run 16 pinon/90t spur to keep temps down)

    http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXUTA5&P=ML

You choose which system you like.

Here are the batteries to get:

Here is the charger to get:

I think he would be better starting off with some 2s to get the feel.

3s could be a handfull to start off with!

heh..my first LiPo I got for my Slash was a 3s...IMO starting off with the 3s will give you a better learning curve then you will starting off with a 2s LiPo..and i now have 2 3s LiPos and 2 2s LiPos..and ordering a couple more hardcase 2s LiPos when I get the cash

okay well if speed floats your boat go ahead..

I just think it would be good for him to get a feeling for the slash.
3s lipos are great and all but i found the slash handles alot different then my other trucks and takes a bit of getting use to.

And really, RCing..is the slash meant for 40mph+ and wheelies..i dont think so. but i dont want to start something so im stopping now

The Slash would definitely be a good choice to start with Electric. Heres my comparisons: Nitro = buying gas, rebuild or replace the motor every 5 gallons, fine tuning turns a hour of play into 10 minutes of good running, messier with more grease and gas spilling, and LOUD, but it does still make for a good time....now Electric, or my Slash atleast = charge the battery, place it in the car, put on the body, hit the button, turn the controller on and GO!!!!! as far as "Brushless" and upgrading thats not something you need to worry about yet, the day i bought mine I bought the Traxxas Slash which came with the 6 cell 7.2v battery and a overnight charger in the box for 230, I also bought a Duratrex 8.4 volt 7 cell 5000mah battery for $65 and the traxxas ezpeak charger for $35 which charges in barely a hour. Got home plugged the 8.4 battery in. a hour later I was beating the heck out of it on the street and in the yard. If you do buy one you can PM me or just search the forums of some need to get upgrades but for $300 you can have a pretty fun car to jump curbs, ramps, cars, houses and chase the cats and dogs around.....oh yeah, can you submerge you gas powered trucks in water and mud???? the slash is amazing and after you get it the VXL power system is even more amazing with crazy power and speed.... heres a video of mine and my brothers, not special videos but shows some of the possibilities of the Slash... let me know what you think...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lluMutZCrTE and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZaINWrUuY4

Get the slash..it's a lot of fun. I've got two myself..and some other guys here own many more! I personally own 6 3s batteries and a couple of 2s'. A 4000maH 7.4v 25c lipo would probably give you around 25 minutes normal run. The more amp you draw (running on thick grass with mohawk tires requires more amp draw than you run your slash on asphalt track) from the batteries the less run time you get of course.

I got rid of 8 Nitro cars and went to 2 Brushless Slashes. The Maintenance is cut in half and no more fuel or glow plugs....You can get equal or better performance and longer run times out of a brushless system and a decent LiPo.Plus the Slash is the most durable truck Ive ever owned and the upgrades are much cheaper than a Monster Truck. You will not be sorry for ridding yourself of The T-Maxx,The only thing you will miss is the smell.

How bout customization? I know there are a-lot of replacement parts avaliable but what about customizing it as far as bodies, wheels, etc....

I really like that rockstar one that Radicalray posted above. Those roll bars on the back look sweet, is that avaliable as a kit or was that home made?

For customization look through the photo gallery. There are toms of hopup parts and wheels and tires. Even quite a bit you can make custom from stuff just laying around the house and garage. Only downside is that since the slash is still "newer" there are not a Tom of bodies to choose from yet only like 5 or so but with a little bit of modifications you can actually get the maxx truck bodies to fit on it.

    but..when i ever go to a race or something..i'll use 2s.

Im going to pick one up here in the next month or so. I have been indecisive between the slash and the e-revo, and I have decided the slash is better suited for me right now. However, I am still waiting to pick up a used e-revo or wait for the price to come down first. I really have a problem spending $500 for a RC car/truck when I can buy a real one for the same price (yes they are out there).

Oh, and what the **** is up with the ugly traxxas transmitters? Everyone I have talked to hates the design, you would think they would have changed it by now.

I sorta like the looks...but they feel cheap and are...

but I use my FM M11 Radio...it's got some good weight to it...feels solid looks solid and is solid..it's also got little rubber shock bumpers all over it...and a nice 6"x3" (Approx) LCD Screen

I'm all about the 2.4GHz, screw the AM/FM crap. Im rough on stuff, and I know I would bend/break the antenna within a week of owning one. I've also noticed the AM/FM transmitters/receivers are more prone to glitching than the 2.4, so that is another reason I decided to just start out with the 2.4.

I just got started in RC a few months ago, and I have decided AM/FM is a dead technology and will be obsolete in the next couple of years. Sure it will still be around, but only on economy/cheap wal mart stuff.

Even though Traxxas has a 2.4 radio, it still looks hideous IMO and is in desperate need of an upgrade. I would really like to see something more conventional with their transmitters. I understand they want to be different and stand out, but they have taken it to too much of an extreme, and a lot of people I have talked to agree. ****, everyone I know who has a traxxas product has upgraded their Tx/Rx simply because their Tx looks ridiculous and is not comfortable.

i rarely get glitching with my FM radio...and if i want to..i can just swap out my FM Transmitter module for a 2.4 Spekky for under $90 with a RX

I think its more with the brushless setups that the glitching is more noticeable. Either way, 2.4>*.

Back on topic, I the slash has caught my eye for the price/durability. I have read time and time again that people literally beat them to **** and have no issues. This is my main concern, because I dont race or anything, I just like to go out and have some fun.

That vid is awesome! I beat the heck out of mine just like that, and it keeps coming back for more! As far as glitching, I run the VXL and have no problems at all. I also braid the motor wires to cut down on interference.
