    New tires tomorrow

I've finally ripped up my stock tires beyond a simple re-glue tonight bashing around the yard/street. I'm popping for a set of Badlands on whatever-looks-coolest 17mm wheels.

    1. I'm planing on punching holes in the tires for drainage, any drawbacks?

    2. What is the best type of foam for bashing tires? I've heard some people recommend doing better foam and not taping, or should I do lesser grade foam and tape?

    3. Should I go 1/2" offset or not; what's the pro/con of widening the wheelbase?

These tires will be my general use, bash, yard, street, parks, etc. tires.

    Thanks in advance.

    1: I wouldn't, it increases a chance for a tear to happen.
2: Whatever foam comes with the tire, and always tape.
    3: Yes.

Don't go punching holes through the tryes, though the rims yes, not the tyres. You will rip them to bits first run! 1/2 offset will give better handling.

I agree with everything but the foam part....I will never use proline foams again they are garbage...you can rip them with your bare hands...get AKA foams...they are a lot tougher...

Only put holes in your tires (2, at opposite sides of the tire) if you are going to be spending considerable time in the water.

If not, only put holes in the wheels.

You should be able to rip any foam with your bare hands, heh!

^ I would hope so, but I tend to agree streching the proline foams on the half-ups is an art to keep them from ripping. From my experience they tend to crumble and crack a lot easier than other foams.

Use the Ofna 38 series foams and trim about a half inch off of one side. You will not have to stretch the foam to make it fit as it slides right on the half up rims.
If it didn't break you can do it again.

Define "considerable time in the water". We've had epic rains lately and speed runs after showers are pretty fun (maybe dumb) but fun. I've made my stock tires go all squishy inside with water a few times.

I'd rather be driving the RC than riding the Harley on a rainy day.

I would think that a set of LPR/3.7" foams would work well with Badlands on Half-Ups, maybe AKA or Panther foams?

Or you could just mount the badlands on MT sized wheels instead of the half-ups. I know the badlands on half-ups combination is very popular at the moment due to reduced sdewall roll and good looks, but the badlands were, after all, designed for MT sized wheels. IMO they still look great, you can use the stock foams without fear of ripping them while stretching them over the rim, plus you have a bit more impact protection for climbing curbs, landing huge jumps, etc. I wonder in the grand scheme of things whether a little sidewall flex would even be noticeable by the average basher?
I've ordered the rulux 1/2 offset MT's and badlands myself as I'm confident the combo will meet my bashing needs and I know my thumbs will thank me for it. I don't feel the need to go with half-ups just because everyone else is doing it, even though I agree it's a fantastic look and, from what I hear, a great performer.

I currently run Badlands on MT wheels...Pro-Line Velocity ˝" off-set 23mm hex HD wheels! I also run a set of MTR Bow-Ties on the same wheels.

In that case you'd be most qualified to give your opinion on the pros and cons of badlands on half-ups vs MT's. (you do run them on half-ups as well don't you?)

Edit: Hang on I've just realized what you're referring to. The HD's are HUGE! 4.05"! They're 40 series aren't they?
When I said MT size I meant MAXX size IE 3.2"

No, the HDs are not huge, they are standard 3.2" MT size...Pro-Line just calls them HD (Heavy Duty) because they use 23mm hexes, they are standard MT size.

Yes, I have also run Badlands stretched onto Half-Ups, so I am familiar with both. I had dyed the Half-Ups black, though, so they are now on my friends nitro Revo.

Oh, OK. I haven't seen those. I thought you must be referring to these.

I use the normal MT size Rulux wheels too, not the half-ups (still 1/2" offset though) with badlands.

I do speed runs and bashing, and have yet to notice any sidewall flex or anything like that. I of course have the tires taped, too.

half ups 1/2 offset + badlands MT taped with fiber glass and mounted on the inner lip of the wheel, glued on the inner and outer lip works perfect for me: strong, no balloning at all, "low" profile tire, wear slow and the behaviour of the car is fantastic on every off-road surface . I use road rages on concrete surfaces.
    Just play.

Here are the results from my first tire/wheel job.

Badland tires on OFNA solid wheels w/ 1/2" offset. I taped, trimmed the bead and roughed up the glue point on the tires. I roughed up the glue point on the wheels. I initially glued to the inner lip of the wheel, and today, re-glued the outer lip. These should be extremely solid and I will get some run time this morning.

Note: CA glue is really sticky.

That's a misprint, they are 40-series, not HD series.
