Eeekk. Thats horrible advice. Use the stock 28t pinion for the 2 nimh parallel and 2s lipo parallel. Use the speed pinion which is the 23 tooth one for the 2 nimh series. I run a single 2s lipo and mine gets kinda of hot. I am thinking of using the 23 tooth pinion for that to lower my temps.

An infrared temp gun is a very good investment. You can usually find them for less than $25, and it pays for itself if it saves just one motor or ESC.

The magnets in the motor will loose their magnetisim if they get much over 220F. Temps of 150F on the outside can mean much warmer inside the can, so that is a good limit there. As for the ESC, 160F is really about as high as I like to see. Short term temps of 175F or so aren't going to immediately kill it, but higher temps shorten the life span of electronics. Much over 175F or so, though, and the thermal paste that glues the heat sink to the electronics can start to loosen.
