    VXL Slash

I've seen the crazy videos of VXL slash's popping wheelies and acting all crazy, are the using special gears to do that, mine is just fast, no wheelies, which is fine by me, just curious why others seem a bit faster.

    I have a Venom 5000nimh 7 cell 8.4 volt battery running 23/83. Everything stock.

    Just curious.

    Happy Bashing on the 4th.

Lipo is light years ahead of NiMH... Try one, you'll never go back.

Exactly, my 7.4v lipo is noticably faster than my 8.4v nimh, 11.1v is going to be crazy.

It's just the whole having to balance your battery, seems difficult and a hassle. Maybe i just don't know enough about it yet. I've only had my slash now for a little over a month.

I have experienced the 11.1v lipo, and MAN HOLY COW!!! I wanted to see how high I could jump it off my local skate park ramp? Well it didn't turn out very good! My slash went about 50ft into the air and came down a broke into about 10 pieces, LoL! Wish I would have recorded it on video! Once you get a 11.1v lipo you'll never go back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's just because you aren't familiar with it... Once you understand the differences and get used to them it is basically just a different charging process, thats all.

Basically NiMH don't need balancing, but they DO suffer from memory effect (i.e. you need to pretty well drain the batteries before charging them or they will stop holding as much power) and Lipo does NOT. If you buy good-quality cells, you could even get away with not balancing them, but if you buy a charger w/ built-in balacer or just use a seperate balancer, it's just a matter of hooking the battery up to it - that's all.

i have been in the hobby almost 2 years now..i started with lipo never had a NiMH batt. thought it was more of a pain. discharging and equilizing etc..one run a day and cycling.. goes on and on..

how much easier can it be to charge. charger does all the work just plug it in and keep your eye on it..couldnt be easier.

well my nimh never gets cycled and never gets run dry between charges and is topped up frequently. Im not paying out for lipo when my 8.4 4600 struggles for traction and gets at least half hour run time bashing . For the record. Nimh do not need draining between charges.

They like a good top-off charge right before you run them to warm them up.

I run 2s Lipo on a VXL 18/86 gearing and I don't wheelie, but I have the back end set rather soft, only one spacer, outer most holes on the arms etc so it squats more than anything. If I firmed up the rear end of the car I am sure it'd wheelie, but I have the Savage for that

This information is WAY off.Nimh cells do need to be balanced to perform at their best. That's what they make equalizing or balancing trays for.Nimh cells also do not suffer from memory effect. At least nowhere near as much as nicad cells do.You also do not want to "pretty well drain the batteries before charging".Overdischarging nimh cells can ruin them just as lipo cells.True, you do want to discharge them to equal voltages, but they should not be drained to nothing.I don't know where you got your facts from, but you should probably start looking elsewhere.

I have to agree with harry697, nimhs benefit from balancing just like lipos do. The problem is you need a SXS pack and a balancing tray to do it. Also modern day nimh do not suffer from battery "memory" that has not been with us for many years. Also it is never a good idea to totally discharge a nimh pack doing so will ruin a pack.
