What gearing do you use in 4S?

I've got 2 HYPERION G3 in 2S and 5500mAh, which gearing would you recommend? Thx

If you try the search, you'll find alot of threads like this: http://monster.traxxas.com/showthrea...ght=4s+gearing

Just type in "4s gearing" and you'll come up with alot! Also, Brian G's speed calcualtor (sorry, I don't have a link as I am slacking at work) is a great tool

Actually, that thread is on the first page. Sorry, but this topic has been beaten like a red headed step child

i was running 23/65 for a couple weeks (around 38 mph) until i stripped the spur and the LHS only had 58 in stock so i have been running that for a while (around 41 mph)

i ordered 3 more 65t spurs that should be here in a couple days.. plenty fast for what i'm going and if i need more speed, i have a 54t in my parts box!!

In the TRAXXAS quick start instruction they recommend 18/54 gearing instead of the stock 18/65 for 4S. Does anyone of you use this gearing?

Yes I do.. but I also run Losi XTT wheelset. this combo makes for very snappy response.. much bettter than running stock wheels or even response pro wheelset.

I'm running 18/65 on 4S. I like it, I have more top end and it still has a ton of bottom end.

    The specs on the g3 5500 are 158.5 x 46.8 x 20.7
How well do these fit in the battery compartment on the ERBE?

Too bad that the 3s is 30.7 thick.

They fit perfectly, as if they were made for the revo . They don't move at all but have enough place:

To my mind you could put G3 3S if you really push them but I don't know about the temperature then..

What kind of temps should we be looking for and what should we not exceed?

So far my ESC fan hasn't kicked on, but once and it was 92F out.

    Pulse,

Under the user name welcome bar at the top of the page there is a Search option. This question has been addressed many times and will prob save you time. I use the optional gearing with turnagy 5.0 7.4 lipos and get about 40 mph on badlands on integy dish wheels. good luck....

The optional spur that they include, 54t, is used to reach their claimed top speed with 4s of 40+mph. Personally, I think you need to be careful with that gearing and watch your temps. I am currently running 22/65, as my 62t spur stripped. But even at 22/65 it seems great for off road. Even enough to beat a nitro Rustler in a 40 yard dash!

Chachi I'm confused. If I'm not mistaken both your gear ratios 22/65 and 22/62 are slightly taller than the included 18/54 gearing and would have higher top speed and presumably higher temps. Why would you need to be more careful with 18/54?
I've run 18/54 quite a lot on 4s without any temp issues, but it does warm up a bit on 6s with that gearing.

Nah, you are right Ballistyx. Really my gearing from a ratio standpoint is pretty close. I run Badlands, and here is what I come up with using the BrianG's calc:
    22/62: 38.47mph
    22/65: 36.69mph
    18/54: 36.14mph
I was mainly giving a warning to keep an eye on temps (no matter what gearing), but more so than the stock 18/65 that the ERBE comes with.

For a given gearing, you WILL get more heat going from 4s to 6s. The higher voltage on the same load (gearing/motor) would generate a lot more current. So, when increasing voltage, decreasing gearing to get the same speed will yield about the same temps. Also, gearing down a 6s setup for the same speed as 4s will improve runtime because you are pulling around the same power from the batts, but less current is needed.

To see a graphical relationship between gearing, motor kv, and voltage, check this out: http://scriptasylum.com/rc_speed/_bl_comparison.html
