Lipo Battery Notice - Big Size Issue w Brands

I just opened my revo and first put in my maxamps 3s 1550 lipos and they fit perfectly. The battery doors close securely and the 16 gauge wires fit nicely through the wiring notch, while the align connector tucks nicely into the beveled area of the battery compartment. Then, however, I tried the 1550 3s Rhinos I have stocked up on, which are only about 1mm thicker and it is a disaster. The packs will not allow the doors to close and the 12 guage wire is way too thick for fitting into the wiring slot. I managed to get one of the latches to snap closed. Then, I felt like I was going to break something trying to get it undone after the second latch wouldn't even come close to closing. Specifically I'm talking about the 1550 20C 3S Rhino packs from hobby city. This really is shocking as I've had both types of packs for over a week and they seem so close in size I thought that it wouldn't make a difference. I had already made some parallel deans to trx Y adapters for using the 6 rhinos I have invested in. It looks like I will now have to make permanent mods to my e-revos in order to use the rhinos. Looks like with the minis, its going to go beyond a matter of millimeters.

OK Some of them are fitting now barely

After closer inspection, I noticed that two of the rhinos are slightly thicker than the others. With two of the thinner rhinos, I was able to fit them into the battery compartments and get the latches closed, but with considerable awkward strain on the latches and pinching of the 12 guage leads. I'm going to go see what kind of runtime I get now.

    1550/1750mah 2s/3s?

Im getting about 50 mins runtime

I got about 50 mins runtime from two 3s 1550 rhinos in parallel. At sport setting, there is really too much power. I put it in training mode and it still wheelies and gets over 30mph but the runtime lasts forever. I would estimate that in sport mode, you get over 30 mins, but most of the time the revo is on it's back from flipping around like a fish out of water.

What are the largest packs you can fit?

running two 3s packs in parallel would be nice, but do they both fit in the battery box? Or do you guys just strap the extra pack on the chassis somewhere?

I would love to have a little truck that can scoot to 35+ mph and run for around 45 minutes.

    http://www.*********.com/*********/s...idProduct=6518

Are these the packs your speaking of?

Only 14.95!?!?! Thats nuts... Would be sweet to buy 4 packs and run two at a time so with all 4 charged up you have 1.5 hours or so of run time.

What type of speed can you get in sport mode with 3s?

The Rhino 1550 3S 30C is the biggest ***** 3S 30C you can fit (IME) and I GPS'd my EREVO VXL on one with stock everything at 56MPH. the 30C pack is listed as 20MM and the extra 1MM is enough to keep the 1550 3S 20C from fitting (21MM tall)......the extra few bucks is warranted bigtime.

I bulged one of my ***** 3s today...JUST got the car used from someone....The LHS said it could have been overcharged and not to use it. Maybe I made some mistake in my first charging attempt. I may have restarted the charger on the same battery AFTER it was already charged...
Still I would have thought it would sense a full battery and NOT charge again...

There were a few other issues with the car, and I shouldn't have bought used. Too much to go wrong (Shock eyelets trashed, leaking oil, mangled front body mount-unusable etc etc)...

    Thoughts on these:

    http://*********.com/*********/store...idProduct=6540

compared to the Rhino 2s 1750 mentioned above? Mah vs. discharge rate. Anyone know the approx. difference in run times with 1750 vs. 2200? Or difference in power with 20C vs. 25C? Any difference at all with a stock motor 1/16 erevo?

Andreas, I did 56MPH with 1 of the Rhino 3S 1550 30C packs, and still had trigger left when I ran out of runway! This was with everything stock, and my GPS rubber-banded on my E-REVO's hood..... here are proof pics http://monster.traxxas.com/showthread.php?t=484240

The unfortunate thing is that it is probably slowing it down but it also may be keeping it from going airborn!

A good tutorial on lipo , then one on lipo with the minis would certainly be good. Sorry so much babbling but just some thoughts. Kinda need a " lipo central"

+1.... I agree, they should make a sticky on Lipo's that are known to work well, and have no fitment issue. Also a couple options of good solid chargers that work with those batteries.

I have been doing Nitro for a while now, never got into electric. Saw the mini-revo doing backflips and thought man that would be awsome. Read about 20 different threads on here about batteries, chargers, balancers and ect. Said forget it, this is too hard to figure out and learn over again, I know you can run one right outta the box but 6 hr charge time is not an option for me, plus I want the speed ability or run time increase. Not like I am new to the whole RC thing just new to electric.

Make a sticky that shows 3 different price points, and advantages/disadvantages in both Lipo and NIMH. Then show chargers that work with internal balance and having to buy one seperate. Bottom line is make this easier for the idiots like me who have never done electric before.
    I just wanna go fast!!

I have 2 nitros and since the minis have came out I've wound up with 2 mini Revos , one for the son and one for me. Bought a slash for me.

The slash was my first mini and I had to see how the mini revos handled so I got one and liked it so I hooked my son up. Still have both of my nitro revos just learning a little more on the electric side since the 4th of july. I've learned a heck of a lot to. Just keeps getting easier.

The first squeeze on my mini revo throttle running 2 traxxas batteries in parrallel I was doing a wheelie for about 100ft till I let off the throttle. It was sweet and I knew it was a keeper.

If the size is correct, 106mm won't fit... But, there's a comment on that page that fits, so, you will have to wait until you get them... And post pictures if it fits!!!

I just got my Rhino 1550 2S packs, and they fit fine, just needed some trimming for the wires to fit. 2S is nuts, I always though a 2S pack was 7.4v, but it's actually 8.4, able to do standing backflips...

Yes, I saw that, but the max lenght is 102/103mm, so why do they say it's 106mm? Hope it fits anyways!

I will tomorrow morning, but I believe these were already known to fit. They went in no problamo, but I would like to start a stickied thread where each person can post their battery combos and have a pic of how it fits/what modding was needed.

The dimensions from Enerland site list the length at 100mm
and they list them as "TRAXXAS 1/16 lipo series" so they should
    fit

smc 3s 1400 packs fit perfect!

my maxamps 3s 1550 pack is a tight fit.. it actually makes the battery compartment bow out a little, but the door latches ok.

edit: btw, all you peeps running lipos should have one of these:

    http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...Voltage-Tester
    or
    http://www.*********.com/*********/s...y_Monitor_2-6S

so you can test your lipos regularly and know what each cell is at before, during, and after each use or go to charge your lipos. very very handy!
