    Double checking about charger

I have an Triton EQ charger that can do 1-14 NIMH cells.

I am gonna have dual 1600 NIMH packs that I want to charge together.

Am I thinking correctly that if I make a parallel wiring harness with two leads I can charge these at the same time? I would just have to adjust the charger to 3.2 amps rather than the 1.6 amps for one battery. My charger auto detects the number of cells I guess because there is no option in the menu to pick the number of cells...

I am new to electrics and just want be sure so I dont blow something up!!

I already have 2 lipo 3S 1550 Rhino batteries I am gonna play with. I know I have to charge them separately because of the balancer.

    Thanks

    Yes that will work.
you will have the same charge time charging one battery at 1.6mah or two at 3.6mah

You can charge both lipos at the same time as long as you do it as a SERIES connection (doulbing the voltage) and making a balance tap adapter that lets your charger see a 4S balance plug. My TP-210 balancer can take 1 tap in Bank1 groupA and another in Bank1 groupB so I only need the serial power plug adapter to do this.

Your NiMHs should also be charged as a series connection so the charger sees 14 cells.

that is true I guess about being series.. If I would do it as parallel it would only show the charger 7 "Big" Cells.. I need to show the charger all 12 cells..

thanks for the tip.. I may just use one of the series connectors from Traxxas with my charger. Already pre-made!!

I got one of those "Squid" harnesses with the banana plugs so I can pretty do what I want...

I will do this first then work on the LiPos..

I will be back for more info once I do this!!!

    Thanks

It's not absurd, it's safe. I'm sure a trickle charger is cheap, but more importantly it extends the life of the battery. That's more important when you're paying for warranty work.

In another thread on another forum, someone posted that trickle charging kills nimh. No one challenged the statement. I just thought I would share. Idk if I believe it.

Couldn't you charge 2 in parallel at 3.2? Or 3 in parallel at 4.8 for that matter?
