Ah man! That is insane! My uncles only give me cash D: (like 20 bucks). You really ARE spoiling him!
I should not talk though. I got my cousin a bandit with 2 6cell 5000mah batteries and a visionpeak 2 charger for christmas.

Be sure to take some pictures!

You did spoil him, but he will never forget the gift. The only problem you have now is somehow you'll have to top it every year. Now that's going to be hard! LOL

Yeah, I wasn't spoiled at all as a kid. And I dont have kids myself so I like to spoil my sisters kids.

I have gotten him some cool RC cars in the past but never hobby grade. So when they broke (and they always break) it would bum me out because you pay 50-100 bucks for something that looks cool but just doesn't hold up.

With the Slash, anything he breaks can be reletively easily and cheaply repaired and I can buy him upgraded parts as he gets older and better.

He might have a brushless combo coming to him for Christmas if he plays his cards right. LOL.

No that's easy. Next year he'll get a new brushless system for the slash.

The Charger is nothing too special for now. Its an Onyx100 Peak Charger. it charges at 4A up to 8cell NiMh

I have a two nicer 8amp triton chargers that I will eventually pass down to him once he's ready to go brushless. Hopefully by then there will be some Lipo's out there that can take 4C+ charge rates and I will definitely want some higher end chargers by then for myself so he will be getting my hand me downs as I upgrade my lipo stock.

imo, a hobby grade RC is rather dangerous for a 7 years old...Imagine running a BL slash at full throttle and hitting some small kids (his friends) right in the ankle...its gonna be ugly. Small kids just don't enough common sense (yet). Just keep a close watch on that VERY lucky guy
Myth busted: Blitz is not faster on the track.

What?? He will do fine. He would just have to learn to take it slow until he improves on it. If he's a good kid like stated, Im sure he will understand the safety of the hobby. And, a brushless will be fine! If its a VXL, start him off on the training mode.

Its not brushless, that is down the road. He won't be using it without adult supervision. I have seen him drive the toy grade RC and he is very coordinated. If I am not mistaken even the XL5 slash has a training mode.

Yes, put the xl5 in training mode and DO NOT tell him how to change it.... yet....

Then, when he has gotten better, you can change it for him.
