Is the pinion gear metric or standard? I can't find any mention of what it is in the manual. Since the hardware is all metric I would think the gears are too, but I know better than to assume.
Thanks,
Sam

if you're referring to the grub screw it's metric, but a lot of the aftermarket ones are standard

Thanks, I am referring to the pinion gear itself. I know it is 48p but there are both metric and standard 48p pinion gears.
Ive never heard of a metric or standard gear .

i dont think so, i have bought different gears with both metric and standard grub screws (and it really would not make much sense to have the grub one standard and the actual pinion another)
i am 99% sure there is no metric and standard pinions, just the grub.

here is a link to a metric pinion gear:

Though as I look at more Pinion gears that state they are for the slash none of them are designated specifically as metric so I'm gonna guess the slash is standard and order a set of standard ones.
Here is little blurb about the metric and standard gears from RC Car Action. I guess I should have also specified that I was wondering about the "Pitch"
Thanks

Not sure why Tower lists it as metric. I went on Robinson's site and they make no mention of metric or standard sizes.

Here is something I ran across. Scroll down to where it talks about gear pitch. The way it sounds, metric pitch is not very common.

Thanks for the extra research. That is the same article I found after thinking I was having a brain fart re: the different types of gears. I just didn't want to buy a complete set of the Robinson gears only to have a bunch of useless pieces of metal lying around.
Thanks again for your help.

To answer the question, the pitch of the gear is "standard" also known as "imperial" and is 48p.The grub screw takes a 1.5mm (metric) hex driver.
48p is the number of teeth per inch. Inches are not metric.
The picture posted actually details a "metric 48" gear as the equivalent of 42.3 pitch. Metric and imperial gears are not interchangeable. I'm not exactly sure where the "metric 48" terminology came from, it's nothing but stupidity in my mind. Call it what it is, mod 0.6 or whatever.
I get warning points just for having them.
nvm. (10 chars)

Metric pitch gears are extremely uncommon any more, but they're what's used in pretty much any Tamiya kit. Anyone else uses standard/Imperial pitch.
Metric pitch is uncommon? What about 99% of all 8th scale buggies/truggies (mod 1.0), Revo (nitro, Mod 1.0), Jato (mod 0.8), etc?
I have mistakenly bought a metric pitch 48P pinion they do not work with the Slash 48p gearing. You want the standard 48 pitch for you Slash.

Agreed, I try swapping the pinion of my Slash with my Tamiya one, The're different..an 18T standar is much smaller than a 16T metric. It's funny that in some stores, metric is also called "Tamiya pitch"... check RCMart. Probably Tamiya is the only one still using them.Originally Posted by aramid
