Traxxas stampede rears chrome is a good choice for the "retro" look.
As for tires it depends on where you are running and what you like. But there are a lot of 2.2 tire choices.

Yeah. I have the wheels with dirthawg buggy rears mounted on them.... Taped and ballon like crazy. I also run the front end without spring cups to slam down look. The tires just look too thin, almost low profiles on 16" wheels... Still on my list is herbie slash and ford raptor slash baja style

Thx to everyone who posted on here. All the pics and posts gave me lots of ideas. Here's a few shots of what I came up with:

Now that it's done, I'm afraid to drive it, but I'm sure that will all go away once I roll it the first time. I need to get it to the skate park to officially break it in.

I posted this on its own but thought I should add it to this thread as well. This was my first paint job, but I already look forward to working on more of these and matching the quality of the work of those already posted.

the bumpers (which don't fit with the bug bodys to well)
body post(which I made custom ones to fit bug Body)

So I guess it is a Slash now.

I think he saw it from it's bumper, Stampede, Rustler, Bandit, etc have really horrible bumpers that protect nothing.

    But good job!

Fellas, the wheels are Ofna 17mm stadium truck wheels. They are sold as a full set of 4. They are what actually restored my plan to use 17mm wheels. I wanted a more scale looking wheel, something other than the dish and spokes. Bug has a nice wide stance with these wheels and the Protrac kit! It is gonna be a track bug for our Baja class. Thanks for the compliments!

How bash-proof is this body? My 14RS developed a large crack in the roof and another in the rear within just a few runs of big jumps and some rollovers.. does it handle roof landings after a misplaced jump etc without cracks?

mainly other bodies are like .040, while this one is .060 thick! So I would say 50% stronger

I'm getting ready to paint my Baja Bug MT. I'm probably going with a two tone candy red & metallic black. Still trying to work out the exact design (i'm a graphic designer and take entirely way too long with this sort of stuff). How are people mounting the wing to the rear of the bug body? In some photos it looks like rivets(which i don't have access to).

i shoegoo'd my painted wing onto the stumps before drilling & using the 4 screws

yeah proline has always supplied the same blue screws & nylon nuts since
    time immemorial; 10+ yrs easy

however this time... managed to strip the hex in the screws even with Hudy
drivers; either the lately aluminium is gone softer or the nuts are tighter

Cant wait to get mine done. When I see your pictures with the motor on the back it looks good. But when I got mine I didn't like the way it looked so I cut it off. I'm in the process of painting my body as we speak, so I'll post pictures when its done. IMO, in front of me, the body looks better with out the fake motor hanging out the back.

Ok so i've gotten my baja all trimmed down with the exception of the body mounts & wing mount holes. I washed the body out and wore latex gloves while trimming but the inside still looks a bit dirty. It should be fine to wash out again right? All the tutorials say to wash it first thing rather than after trimming.

I also have some rough spots i'd like to sand/file down along the edges. Should i do that before or after painting?

Thanks. Any advice on sanding and cleaning up some of the edges? Before or after painting?

here is mine which is still a, slow, work in progress. I'm waiting on my HPI single rib front tires to come in which will be mounted on the same rims as the rear, but with lees offset to create that staggered look. For dirt/street use it will have the same rims with 2.2 buggy Dirt Hawgs in the front and 2.2 truck Dirt Hawgs in the rear to keep that staggered look. Still have to add a roof rack, decals, and lights. The colors are pearlized white, green, and purple.
